Has anyone hit middle fork recently? I am lucky enough to have an overnighter planned with my sons on a friends property up there this weekend and I am looking for some info. We will be down close to the lake, just on the other side of 7100 East. Any pointers or info would be greatly appreciated so I can get those boys (and myself hopefully) a few fish.

Might want to touch base with a local fly/tackle shop in the area if you can... not sure if the middle fork is controlled by a dam (I don't think that it is), but this sudden jump in warm sunny weather might have that river high and muddy.

The south fork (below Causey Reservoir) would be a good back-up plan. Caddis should be "on" mid/late morning.

Yes, do be careful on Middle fork it will be run off with no control above(especially with kids). you probably will not find much in the way of fish close to the lake because they dry that section out every year for irrigation canals you have to get upstream from the diversion.

RATTLESNAKE CITY!!!I fished it twice last year. It was mid summer so dries worked well... Like he said you have to get up past the diversion. We took mountain bikes because its a long ways from the parking area. Fish were small but it was fun...did I mention the rattlesnakes?? Be careful!!

good to know, thanks for the pointers. I will see if I can find a fly shop up there to stop by. Thanks for the heads up on the snakes as well. sheesh.

No fly shops up there. fish will hit any dry you put on the water. I have fished there a lot and never seen a rattle snake I have seen a few blow snakes. it is a little difficult to fish with more than 1 person.

Ok.. I just got a little smarter. I looked up " blow snake". Im thinking that's what I saw. That's actually good to know because I was leery about going back there.

we both got a little smarter. I will grab a handfull of standards before we head up and make the best of it. The boys are young enough I don't think they will actually fish for very long so I am hoping I can at least get a few casts in without interuption. Thanks agian for all the help. I will throw up some pics if I get into any.

I fished it a number of years ago. Ditto to HTF's report. But I actually stepped right over a rattle snake. Lucky for me he rattled a second and headed down trail away from me. Not so lucky for my buddy that was walking up trail behind me. I think we both messed our pants a little that day. Just be cautious.

It can be very fun to fish. But there are tons of rattle snakes. Enough to keep me from going up anymore.
