My wife and I are getting a way for our anniversary on the 24th of May, we will be staying in Boise. We are planning to do a little fly fishing but we have never been to Boise. Can anybody make a recommendation on what rivers we should consider and where good access points are. You can PM me if you would like. Thanks in advance!

I haven't fly fished the local rivers in a while, so I'm not up to date on the current regs.

Your best bets in the Boise area would be the South Fork of the Boise River (if it is opened) and the Owyhee River (located in Oregon, and also, if it is opened). Or, you could fish the main fork of the Boise. I hear some folks do very well right in town. There are others, but the ones mentioned would probably be considered the best by most folks.

South fork is closed the owyhee would be your best bet it's fishing rEally well but will be crowded. Guaranteed to catch nice bg browns there though you need an Oregon license.

How far do you want to drive? If you want to stay in town, the Boise River is nearby. There is a stretch where people can float down the river in rubber rafts and inner tubes, so I'd avoid that. If you have access to a car there are many options.

I'd recommend calling Idaho Angler, the local fly shop. They will have information on where you can go and what's hatching. They can also hook you up with a guide if you like. Their number is (208) 389-9957.

We will have a car, so that won't be a problem. After doing a little reading, I think we are going to try the Owyhee river. Not sure where on the river we will fish but from what I have read about it, it's a great river. I know there are some fly shops in Boise, are there any near the Owyhee?

The shops in Boise will have the Owyhee info. Just about the only people fishing that river are from Boise!

Head to the Owyhee Res dam. Once you get there, most of the river below is fishable. You'll be able to find lots of good places to fish on your drive in, then you can fish the ones that appeal to you the most as you work your way down. It's a beautiful river. I'm going to be over there this weekend for a church campout on Friday night. I just can't bring myself to pay for the Oregon licence.

Not really any "fishing stores" on the way, once you hit Oregon. There's "The Outdoorsman" in Ontario, but they don't know much of anything about fishing, even when it comes to what they have in the store.

Stop by the Owyhee Corner Store (Red Rock store, right on the corner), ask Jimmy or Janice if they have any fishing suggestions.

Go to the south fork of the Boise, take Blacks creek road, park at the bridge and be sure to go downstream, above the bridge is closed. The shore isn't to bad to walk, some spots is bushwacking.
