There we wuz! Riding down the lake in search of the wily elusive crappie, when lo and behold, old Hal hooked into this trashy green fish while fishing a dock. The battle was on! That old Bass was throwing lefts and rights at old Hal and old Hal was grunting and dodging dock pilings and even at one point had to thrust his arm all the way down into the water up to his armpits and pass the rod completely underneath to the other side as that trashy green fish was not playing by the rules. It tried to wrap him around every piling that was under that dock.

It was tuck and go for a while with neither adversary giving any ground. Finally old Hal asked for a dip net, but about that time, the phone rang and it was Cuonthelake, so I had a conversation with her while old Hal continued his epic battle with this monster. After telling Candi, that I really needed to go and help old Hal as he was beginning to look peeked at that point in the battle, so I finally got down into his storage box and found his high dollar net and after some instructions, got that blasted thing open and pass it to him like a relay runner passing a baton and he proceeded to finally bring that big pig to bay. Whew! Bout wore me out just watching all that activity.

We weighed that thang (4.75 lbs) and it was a spawned out female that woulda, shoulda, coulda weighed about 6 lbs when she was pregnant, but after giving birth to thousands of infants, she had lost as lot of weight. We released her after pics and body weight and she streaked like a linebacker right back to that dock probably to protect her offspring. emoBigSmile I'll remember that spot in a couple more weeks when CFF #5 rolls around. emoBigSmile

Hal was using a 1/32 oz Bobby Garland Ghastly Minnow 2" shad bait and had that on an ultralight 5.0 rod with 6 lb test Mr Crappie line. I told you that Mr Crappie was the strongest line for its size that I have ever found. Even after sawing on those pilings for at least 5 minutes, the line held its own and Hal landed that fish, no help from me other than passing the baton.

Then we crappie fished and caught somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 fish. We have the old timers crappie tournament in the morning, and I don't know if we can get 7 big ones or not. We will do our best. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
