Every year I try to make it out to the Ute Indian reservation at least once. I made my first trip out this year on Friday with my uncle. Usually we go out for the weekend, but this time we decided just to go out for a day trip. The place we usually go is about a 4 hour drive, so this time we decided to try a new stream thats a little bit closer that I hadn't fished before.
It was about a 2 hour drive. We got there about 10:00 a.m. and started about half way up the stream. There was plenty of good looking holes, but in the first 3 or 4 hours I only caught 1 small Brown, and had another decent sized one get off.

My uncle also caught 2 smaller Browns. We fished up probably 2 miles, then worked our way back to truck. We had some lunch and decided to fish down stream a little bit. Again, we found plenty of good looking holes, but I didn't catch anything, my uncle caught another small brown.
We were thinking about just heading back home and stopping by Strawberry on our way. We decided to drive up a few more miles and see if there was any fish up a little higher. It was a good choice.
My second cast I hooked onto a 13 inch Cutthroat.

We Fished up further, and it seemed to be the same story as before. Besides that cut, I didn't catch anything else. My uncle caught another small brown, and small cut.
Then we found the hot spot. Two beautiful looking holes.

We could see quite a few good sized fish. We threw basically everything in the tackle box and had fish follow on about every cast, but nothing was hitting. About 5 p.m. the fishing TURNED ON!

Caught fish on a Silver Blue Fox, a couple on a wooly bugger, but I caught the most on a white curly tail. I'd never fished for trout with a curly tail, but since it was cloudy I figured I'd try something bright, and it paid off. I caught 50+ fish from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. all in those 2 holes. The average size was 16-17 inches with three at 20 inches and one at 21 inches.
Great day. I'm glad we decided to go up a little further.
