The storms kept me from working, so I took some of my boys and went to shore fish Winder. The cold front didn't promise much, but as the adage goes: 'a bad day of fishing is better than a good day of anything else'.

So we fished from one end to the other, casting amonst the trees and shrubs. I think I snapped my leader 4 different times, what with all the timber I managed to wrap up. [mad]

The dam end was a ceaseless gale, and bites were hard to come by with how dirty the water was from the chop.

My boys caught zero - quickly losing interest and opting to eat all our snacks and be as loud as they could while entertaining themselves...

I wound up with 11 LMB, with an average size of 9-10". Rather pathetic, but better than sitting at home, staring out the rain-streaked windows, and wishing I was fishing...

At least you got out and caught a few. This weather is not easy stuff to fish in. I think we had more good days of fishing weather in January than there has been this spring!

I'd hit it up again, throw 3-4 inch wacky rigged senko/dingers right next to the timber and brush. I was there about a week ago and caught tons and tons. They were all 9-10 inchers, but it will keep the boys entertained and keep them into fishing. [Wink] Be sure to watch the line, cause they don't hit it really, they'll just swim with it in their mouth, so a hi-vis line with a leader will help, don't set a hook and just reel in and you'll have a blast bringing in the little buggers. That's precisely what I was doing. 4" & 5" stick baits, weightless, wacky rigged with high-vis yellow braid and an 8' flouro leader. [Smile]

Generally pretty bulletproof approach, but that cold front threw them for a loop.

I'll get out there again soon, but not THIS weekend, and probably not for several days after. They'll see more tackle than you can shake an (Ugly)Stik at over the next several days. [Wink]

As my own boss, I generally choose to avoid rush hour on the water (aka 'the weekends') - and opt for middle of the week trips where me and my boys are sharing the water with fishermen of the winged and beaked variety.

Dang, yeah, those storms were pretty bad. Either they moved deep during the storm and shortly thereafter, or they didn't feel like eating because of it. I was also in a tube, so I was hitting them from a different angle as well, so that might have made a difference.

I'm with ya on not going on weekends/holidays though. I want to go out so bad this weekend, but I know once I get there I won't enjoy it much, if at all.

I was at Winder Thursday, and caught lots of Bass. Biggest ones were about 14" and a couple of 12" the rest were smaller. I was wading the shoreline and casting a jig around structure. I think I found one of your wacky rigged worms in a bush, I'll have to try it some time.

Yes, I have Christmas treed a couple of different pieces of vegetation around there.

In fact, Monday morning I adorned one nicely with a 2 hours old $9 Rapala. [mad] Damn. This sport is expensive when I don't use the boat.

Drove by again this week, the water has dropped 3 feet from the previous week. Did not fish it as I was headed elsewhere.

Perhaps I'll be able to reacquire my tackle soon! (Or someone else will add to theirs.)
