Went out to Deep cr on Saturday (5-18-13) to see if I couldn't get into some of the carry overs. It was cold and rainy in the morning with snow on the mountain tops. I still braved it out in my float tube with my rain gear on. The funny/ironic thing is that catching seemed to go with the weather. I didn't get any solid bites until the afternoon when the storm broke and the weather warmed up. All in all I caught only one semi-decent carry over bow (just under 17") and maybe 10 or so first year little planters. I had way more bites that fish caught they just didn't seem to be hitting very hard. I only had one fish really hit hard and that was the 17 incher.

Kind of made me wonder why I even bothered weathering the storm. I could've slept in and been their in the afternoon and would've probably faired the same. Oh, well that is the price we pay and if fishing was only about catching fish then I wouldn't fish half as much as I do. It was a serene feelings as I was out there alone during the storm, kind of a peaceful serenity. once the storm broke a bunch of people starting showing up. Call it karma or whatever you want but sometimes you just seem to get out what you put in, reap what you sow. And I'm sure the hard work of fishing through the storm will pay off in the end.

One Sad note, there was a stringer with three fish on it floating in the water not far from the shore. It appeared that it had been there for a couple of days. It was Sad cause there was one bow on that stringer that was easily 6lbs. I myself practice catch and release and don't have anything against those who want to keep their fish in as much as they eat/use what they catch. I'm sure the stringer was lost from a boat or other means but is was still Sad to see.

I was so on my way to Deep Creek, when I decided a rainy day would be better spent on chores at home. I'm still kind of Sad I didn't get out. O'well now I can get out this weekend a little easier.

Thanks for the report. What flies did you try if you don't mind me asking.

I tried a little of everything. most of what I caught was on a scud and a damsel. I didn't get anything on a midge. And I caught the 17" on a leach pattern.

if you make it up there this weekend I hope you fair better than I did. I will probably try to make it back pending nice weather.

I think you did really well considering the lousy weather we have been having. Glad you got to hook into one good one. Thanks for the report and fly info.
