This thing has to be easy to make I found Transparent Rigid PVC Pipe already, and the lights in various colors on ebay, the PVC is as simple as anything that we all can buy local. Looks like an extension cord and of course some pvc glue and marine grade sealer. I'm stumped on the ballast and electronics of this thing, so can anyone help out. I want 4 of these, 2 off both sides of boat. Common guys help me build this and I will make a thread for everyone. I've seen them in action and they do work. Tried calling the guy to buy the 4 as well as emailed and no replies so now it's time to get crafty. Besides he wanted $160 and it will be much much less to build.

your right you have a problem. a fishing buddy brought one of those out a couple months back, he spent more time untwisting his line than he did fishing. Just like an ancor rope, if it hangs from the boat you will eventualy hook in to it or a fish will rap around it. I was not impressed.
find a functional incodecent light and tear it apart for the ballast, you can buy one but they are expencive. be sure to find a newer one because the older ones have condencers you will have to deal with.
you will then need a converter to change 12 volt to 120 volt.
you will need to be carful which state you use this in bucause it is unlawfull in several.
there are easier ways to go, with less entanglement than having long protuding pillars hanging down from your boat.
switch to a 12 volt light bulb
make a circular plexigas bottom and a light weight top with foil on the inside. Make it water tight from the bottom to nearly the top.
place a water weenie around the plexiglas to make it float. the glas will sit on the water.
hook it up to your 12 volt battery and put a switch on the wire somewhere.
you can get from 25-100 what 12 volt bulbs from your auto suplyer or camper home suplyer.
there are also battery operated LED's you can be adapt to better suit what you want to do.
think outside of the box on this one.
Well I ended up ordering this and in Ohio it is legal. I put this on the opposite side of the boat that I am fishing and it attracts freaking baitfish out of hell. Crappie don't get caught up in it and it is brighter than anything anyone has on the lakes as of yet. It floats and emits 4000 lumens of green light, very amazing. Thanks for your response but in this case you guys have no idea what your talking about!

The floating light I turned into a spot light and added a wall switch,if I put up the video of floating lamp to spot light conversion I'll post back!
You can see it in this video between [#0000ff]2:06-2:15[/#0000ff] ,its real easy Man,just cut the face off an old spot light, tape the bulb on really good add the foam, you may need to split the foam put dat back on to protect the bulb and tape it on as well.
Make sure the bulb is counter sunk, run the wires and add a switch for easy operation! Put wat ever switch you like!

For $10.00 makes for a cheap and simple build spot light
git yours today! Go out there at night and git er done!

Edit: P.S. The beam is horizontal shaped so make sure the bulb is on straight,if not you end up with a crooked light beam..
