To start the long weekend, my daughter, my Active Military Neighbor, and I took our first trip to Strawberry. We launched from the Strawberry Bay Marina at about 6:30AM and headed for the Sage Hen area.

It was a very calm morning -- about 35 degrees outside. Water temp 49.

We stayed in that area of the lake until about 8:30 and picked up three fish... Two Rainbows and a Cutt. We trolled down toward the ladders area and picked up two others before deciding it was time to try another spot.

We moved over to the Mud Lake side and from 11:30 AM to 1PM we experienced one of the funnest 90mins of fishing I've ever had at Strawberry. We landed approx 30 fish (all Slot Cutts) in that period. We had four rods out, and twice we had them all reeled in with fish before we could get any back out.

It was obvious when we'd hit the school. We'd get a couple hits, then singles and doubles hooked... and once a triple and and quad. We'd continue on until we didn't get a bite for five minutes, turn around and go find them again.

This continued until the wind picked up to 15 and gusting above 20mph and it was time to go.

My daughter took the "Most fish" prize with approx 17 (it became impossible to keep exact count with everything else going on).

Most of the "hot fishing" time we didn't have time for pictures as we were focusing on getting fish in and safely back in the water, but here's my neighbor with a smaller Cutt:

Great post. i have had trips in the fall just like that. What was your trolling lures of choice? Downrigger or weights?

Gold spotted spinner baits were the hottest, but when they were biting they hit just about anything we had out. Rainbow Rapalas were probably second best.

No downriggers. They were shallow.

It's Mud Creek area.. not Mud Lake.

Sage Hen Knoll is the island kinda between Jake's Bay and the Ladders.
