looks cool, but only one question??
Like any straight blade, you have to have a starter hole to put the blade through the ice?? What do you use for the starter hole?

Go read the page. It has a chipper tip. I like it because it would be easy to make double and triple holes quickly. It's a little pricey though.

I did read, guess I missed that part?? Whats a chipper tip?? You just pound it through the ice??

First sentence on Ice Saw page:
"Chip through the ice easily with this amazing lightweight ice saw and start cutting any shape hole you want."
I'm sure the tip is shaped like a chisel.

very interesting indeed and while it would be nice to cut say a 2 foot hole or such i think the price is a little to high

If I cut enough blocks, I could build a shack! Pretty cool tool to have on the ice. Just more money than I can spend. Thanks for the link!

BLM,
I'm thinking that it might be good for joining two or three holes cut very close together to make a triagular hole that doesn't exceed 18 inches at Bear Lake, Fish lake, and the Gorge. It might be just the ticket for cisco when The Bear is frozen too. I'm just wondering how much you would save trying to chip a hole all the way through the ice with this thing, and then cut a round hole. Versus using an auger in the first place. And like a chain saw, it would bring a certain amount ( although much less than a chain saw) of water up onto the ice with each stroke, after you got the pilot hole cut.
If you do get one, keep us informed.
BTW, my X98df is on its' way.

On the ice, chainsaws suck! Man, I've done that a time or two and you can have it. You better bring a change of clothes! For cisco when the lake is frozen and the ice is less than 12 inches, Drilling a series of holes next to each other in the shape and size you want then using a good size axe will break it thru pretty slick. Shove the center under the ice and cisco netting begins! The best holes are the ones already made! You wait for someone to do it and when they leave, you use their hole!
I've used axes and ice chisels to break the center out after drilling holes for ice fishing in 12" to 30" of ice and it is a Beech! You'll only do it a few times. The saw is interesting but like everyone else, it's an expensive luxury.

I wouldn't use this saw. If I wanted to get a workout I'd go to the gym or dole my hang auger. For that price tag I'd get a lazer hand auger and a ton of good fishing jigs and baits.
If you do try it out let us know what you think.

Nobody is saying to go out and buy this thing or that it's the best thing since sliced bread. I put it up for interest's sake only. I don't know about the rest of you, but I had never seen anything like it and thought others might enjoy being enlightened to "other methods" out there.
If you fish lakes with larger fish that have a hole size max of 18" max diameter and want to take advantage of the larger hole size then there might be a use for it and like I said before, I'm not going to buy it.

Thanks for the info BLM, I think it's great when we all share interesting new stuff with each other, I agree with you it's a little pricie though. I bet you would not turn it down if someone gave it to you for Christmas would you? It sure would be a lot easier than that chisel bar you use when cutting two holes together. WH2

You're exactly right! IF someone gave that to me for Xmas, I'd take it and I could certainly put it to good use!

I agree the best holes are the ones already made....LOL
Thanks for the info. It is pretty neat. But like everyone said spendy. I am sure someone will come up with something similar soon and it will be cheaper. It would come in handy when you are fishing pineview and that big muskie won't fit through the hole you have punched.
