After getting everyone blasted off with some difficulty, I figured my first spot would already have boats in it so I decided to head to Waconda Bay. On second cast, a large fish took off with my soft plastic and I set the hook. The fish felt large then all of a sudden was gone. Growing frustration over my inability to hook fish while my arm is healing finally led me to lay down the casting rod and go back to the spinning rod, which was the best decision I made all day. Caught five more fish in Waconda Bay before heading to an isolated slough with grass and bream beds in the back. Quickly caught my first keeper on a green pumpkin worm. In the next thirty minutes I caught ten fish, with all of my keeper fish coming in that time period. The largest fish of the bunch had a large gash missing, the product of a prop or a turtle. Fighting motor issues, I finally headed back towards HBSP. Headed into a slough where friends had been on fish this morning, but the wind was so strong I could not even make a decent cast. Finally headed in about 1pm to clean up my boat and get ready for the weigh-in. Had a great time on the water, and slowly getting well physically. All fish caught on soft plastics on a pfleuger reel, abu vendetta M action spinning rod, and 8 pound Triple-Fish fluorocarbon.
