Just curious if anyone here has ever fished at night around Steck when the wind is calm? Every time I can remember being there it has been very windy after dark.

I have. I have even fished at night in a float tube and an inflatable Pontoon. MOst of the time it was July and August. Ron

Thanks Ron, it's good to know it is possible. I hate wind.

Sometimes in late summer that wind is a blessing. Ron

I've done it a couple times and have definitely been run off early before by the wind.

Last time was a couple weeks ago and it was off and on windy, but got a little better as the night went on. Unfortunately, the catching was only so-so. We caught four nice cats, but it took a long time.

My family and I have fished Steck at night, mostly in July and August and the wind hasn't been that bad, but it's hit or miss. We have had some really windy nights also. Good luck!

Yesterday evening was really nice there. After sunset there was a fairly stiff breeze below Steck, and a light breeze above. We were off the water by 10:30 since we had to work today.

How was the water level? Still running very high? Was over there Sunday the water was almost touching the railroad.

Yes, I'd say it's within a foot of being as high as it can get.

I'm with you, windy as heck at night in the canyon downstream from Steck Park. Lots of spiders later in the year too. Had to put boulders on the corner of our tent and park the truck upwind and it still was laying on it's side the whole night. Fishing is good and worth it. Mornings aren't too bad though.
