Any words on the hatch thus far? I plan on floating the canyon next week and I may be a little early. If the hatch isn't on any other suggestion on what I might want to try.

It's really hard to pin it down. Plan on the last week of June thru the first week of July, but don't count on it. Water temps, air temps and water levels all have an effect on the timing. Check with Jimmy's daily as he will have the info as soon as it begins.

Thanks for the help. I have traditionally gone over the 4th. It has normally been a little late so this year we decided to go a couple of weeks earlier. It still may not work out. But I do love to float the canyon and I am bringing a first timer floating the river. Been watching Jimmy's site, it hasn't been updated since the 5th.

I did a short float yesterday between the thunder showers. No dry fly fishing yet, but it should start any day now. If you miss the salmon fly hatch on your trip there should be pmds and yellow Sally hatches before and after.

I had a good day dry fly fishing the middlefork last saturday. Caught some nice fish..

Pre hatch swing sandymites. Just tossing it out there. You'll be pleasantly surprised with the results. Also as far as hatches now reports back from family is there is some great top water action the closer to dark you get.

I saw salmon flies in Island park on memorial weekend!! And saw people who saw them on the SF before that!!? I'm no expert so is that an early small group and the meat of the hatch is still to come??

Well I am heading out tomorrow and it seems I am going to be a week early. No worries thought it sounds like it should be good fishing. I am just looking forward to the float. Any fish I catch will just be a great bonus.

That's actually good timing. Stop at jimmies and ask for a few mackay specials and swing them wet.

Well we got up there and got back. What a great 3 days of fishing. Seen a few of the big flies and even caught a couple of fish on them. But the big ticket were nymphs. The copper john (green) was the fly that seem to get us into the bigger fish. We caught some very nice Browns, Cutts, rainbows, and a ton of whitefish . I can't wait to do it agian. Just checked Jimmy's site and the big flies are on the move. I was a week early but still had quite the adventure. Thanks again for your help
