I have been fishing King Hill for Sturgeon for several years. We usually bring a trout rod or two. We have caught tons of Squaw fish, a few bass, and a few carp over the years. My questions is are there any other species of fish in that stretch of river above the bridge? I always thought there would be Cat Fish and Trout in there, but have never caught either one. Thanks!!

That stretch has the potential for cats but in reality the population in the strike area is just not big enough to spread out that far. I know a couple guys that have caught a cat in the sturgeon holes but it is like seeing a unicorn. Trout should be there but are not planted in any great numbers. The river from Shoshone Falls to Strike is not real productive on it's own. The F&G plant triploid trout. Even the bass in the hagerman area are not anything to get too wound up about. It is all about the welfare fishing. F&G plant the fish and guys line up at the truck to catch them. I don't go for that crap. Ron

My biggest sturgeon came from the railroad hole there, she was 9 1/2 and my buddy caught an 11. I have saw lots of 8 & 9 lb trout caught by accident. Never a cat and lots of 24 in + squaw fish, never thought about the state record. Lots of nice smallmouth at the mouth of clover creek. I like to fish down the in the fall, when stuff starts to die the fish turn on and the newbies in their new jetboats are gone. Good luck! Dale

Thanks for the info guys [cool] The longest fish we have caught around there is 9' but the largest was 8 1/2. It had an enormous girth. If you don't mind me asking where is the Railroad hole? I live in Salmon, we make a couple of trips a year. We are heading down in the morning for a few days. We launch the boats at the dirt ramp above King Hill bridge I usually don't venture below the bridge or above Pegleg Rapid. There are a ton of holes in that stretch I just don't know any of the names other than the pump hole. Do you guys have any particular bait you like to use. We have always done the best on the trout we pick up a Simmerly's in Wendel. I always thought Squaw fish would work since they must eat that or carp. Everything I have ever read says use what they eat in the water they live in, but it doesn't seem to be the case there. We have tried it Squaw fish but never had any luck.
