Headed to West Yellowstone Montana for a conference in 3 weeks. While fishing Montana has been on my bucket list, I don't know a whole lot about the area. I will only have a few hours here or there while sluffing a class or two and I'm just looking for a river or lake nearby. I prefer to spin fish if that helps at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

30 minutes away is Henrys Lake in Idaho. Perfect for spin fishing for trout, though the fish may be a little ways off the shoreline in July.

Hebgen lake and Quake lake are right there outside of West. Either is pretty good for spin fishing... there are cliffs above quake where you can climb up and see where the fish are. Pretty cool area....all slimers there though. Have to drive quite a ways to find a fish that is tableworthy!

I agree with Hebgen. But Henry's would be worth that $12.00 day pass, I think. I will know more next week. The weeds will be getting thick.
