TULSA, Okla. - Very little fishing pressure combined with enhanced conservation efforts make Canada''s Lac La Martre the No. 2 destination for trophy pike, according to In-Fisherman Magazine's "10 Top Picks for Pike." While the lake sees fishing pressure only nine weeks of the year, NRA members who want a legitimate chance at a world-class trophy can take advantage of special pricing this summer, thanks to NRA Outdoors outfitter Lac La Martre Adventures.
Lac La Martre Adventures has set aside one week of its fishing season exclusively for NRA members, offering discounted pricing on three- and six-day trips. Trips include floatplane transportation from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories; meals, lodging and one guide per two anglers. NRA members-only pricing for the three-day trip (July 26-29) is $1,995 plus 5 percent GST; the six-day trip (July 20-26) is $2,995 plus 5 percent GST.
Lac La Martre, made famous by the TV show "Ice Road Truckers" is located in Canada's Northwest Territories, 125 miles northwest of Yellowknife. Consisting of more than one thousand square miles of cold, clear water, the lake features countless bays and islands as well as a wealth of trophy-sized northern pike, lake trout and arctic grayling. The outfitter hosts no more than 12 anglers per week, ensuring high levels of personal service and reducing fishing pressure to the point where 30-pound pike and lake trout are commonplace.
