I stopped for a quick hitter at Deer Creek this week. I ended up catching several 4-6 inch catfish. I was targeting trout, but wondered how big the cats are up there?? It was a fun day, ended up with the small cats, a limit of trout, and a few bluegill.

It's a crappy pic, but I have attached one of a little cat.

Some bozo has illegally introduced both mudcats and white bass in deer creek. You need to dispose of the when you catch them!!
I did, there is a pile on the ground...I had read that not releasing them was required so I didn't...I was just wondering if there are big ones in there, it looks like they are reproducing.

Last year I only caught 12-14"

Quote:BULLHEAD, Black 1999 3 lb 4 oz 16" 13" Jack Gilgen Cutler Reservoir

Ain't no such thing as a big Bullhead. The state record is 16".

From Wikipedia:

Quote:It generally does not get as large as the channel or blue catfish; with average adult weights are in the one to two-pound range, and almost never as large as five pounds. It has an average length of 6-10 inches, making it smaller than other bullheads. It is typically black or dark brown on the dorsal side of its body and yellow or white on the ventral side.

For the life of me, I can't figure why anyone would want them in Deer Creek.

There is no ryme or reason why, they just think it would be nice to have them there. Makes no sense, all they do is screw up the fishery for everything else. The bullheads will not have that big an impact, but the white bass will be a real competition for the LMB, SMB, walleye, and trout !!! Yea !! to the fool who put them in there, I hope the spines of a thousand bullheads infect your neather regions for eternity !!!
It makes me absolutely furious that someone decided to let mudders go in there. I hate them more than I hate carp. At least carp are fun to catch. Bucket biology makes me very Angry, but if you are gonna let catfish go somewhere, at least make it channels.

One of the ways bucket bio happens is when someone is illegally fishing live minnows. For instance if someone caught a bunch of minnows with a fish trap in Utah Lake, and they then used them in Deer Cr. When they were done fishing they dumped the rest of the minnows in the lake since they didn't want to risk being caught with them. No harm right?? [crazy]

Someone tried to do exactly that. A few years ago, I was fishing Deer Creek and saw a large dead channel cat floating.

I was hoping you'd say that you saw the bucket head floating.

Interesting. I hope they don't have to poison Deer Creek here in a few years. They need to come up with a way to poision specific fish. It sounds crazy now, but I'm sure it will be possible down the road.

They'll never drop a single drop of poison in Deer Creek. So we'd better hope that nobody else tries any bucket biology. If it gets in there, it'll be there regardless.

[#000000][size 3][font "Times New Roman"]That shouldn't surprise you buddy, catfish can live in many waters, be they cold or warm. Good catch though, irregardles of size. [fishin]

[#000000][font "Times New Roman"][size 3]I don't forsee any problems with catfish in Deer Creek, even if they were illegaly introduced or found their way in there somehow. But I do agree that the DWR need to take furhter action to enforce these illegal stockings.

The only problem with mudders in Deer Creek is that they will eat a whole bunch of the food in the reservoir and not provide much of a fishery. How many people are going to run up to Deer Creek to catch a limit of mud cats? Nobody. How are they going to affect the Yellow Perch? They won't help. Maybe the Walleyes will eat them.

How do you propose they do that? Maybe they could ask the bucket biologists to turn themselves in so that they can prosecute them.[:/]
