I have a family camp out the end if this month In McCall. I really want to float tube and fly fish a mountain lake early one morning. Can anyone help me with some direction on this? Flies, lake, how to fish them? I don't think my wife will be ok with me being gone for the whole day so the closer the better.

Go to little payette lake. Just go by the golf course and get on lick creek road (to yellow pine). As soon as the road turns gravel go about a mile or so and it is on the right hand side.
As you are standing on the dock facing the lake, focus on the left shore line. There are weed beds and some huge bass with an occassional nice trout. It is special reg's (artificial fly or lure, single barbless hook only)

Not sure if end of the month means this weekend or next but if you are still looking for different options for a drive to lake near McCall, I would recommend looking at the area around Brundage ski area. Goose Lake is relatively close to the highway and usually has stocked trout in it. A little further in but still accessible from the road is Hazard and another lake called Granite that I've had some pretty good success fishing in the past. There's also Boulder Reservoir as an option just south of town. Whatever you decide to do, best of luck with your adventure.
