Took a trip up north of Preston to Onieda Reservoir last week. Had a great time with the family floating the river and camping. But what's a trip up there without a little fishing. Hit the reservoir three times in two days and never really figured out the magic. We ended up with nine fish. Two walleye, one perch and the rest were all small mouth. I had several others eyes to the surface and they forgot how to hang on. Nothing very big, I think the eyes were about 15" but I didn't measure them. Fun trip, but slow fishing for us. Later J

Sounds like I made the right choice in chasing largemouth last week instead of heading up there. I think I may hit it this week though, I would really like to get into some smallies. Hopefully they cooperate.

Fishing seemed to be improving as the water was rising. The smallies were liking yellow curly tail jigs. Only problem was the size. Most were under the size limit. I didn't fish Saturday, but heard others were doing well on walleye then. Good luck. J

Cool, thanks for the info. Sounds like they may be in their postspawn funk. Hopefully they'll get back round to feeding soon.

The smallies seemed to be the most active fish up there. We were targeting walleye and picked up the smallies as collateral action. That might have been part of my problem, I didn't get any of the heavier bottom bouncers so I limited my fishing to 20' or shallower and the eyes may have been deeper. Hope you have a great trip.
