Any chance of a late season if they get there numbers early?
Hey, Jigs, we had a nice chat with our contact at IDFG/Boise this morning. Remember that old saying, "Your chances are Slim & None and Slim just left town"?

Well, that's about the size of it for a chinook season this year. Even though the run numbers look good, out of the 482 total fish trapped, only 157 of that number are females. The brood stock goal of 940 fish should generally include about half females.

Meanwhile, the run numbers and PIT tags over Bonneville and Lower Granite don't show a surplus of fish and IDFG is hoping that the numbers will help the Sawtooth Hatchery meet brood stock goal. They just don't see enough of a cushion or surplus in the numbers to think about a season. However, as our contact said, "We will never entirely close the door on the possibility, we'd just have to see a surge in the numbers and we don't expect that to happen this year."

I have asked the person who updates the Sawtooth Hatchery Facebook to begin including the number of females into the daily data. Not sure if they will be able to get permission to include that number but it was worth asking.

Anyway, we can all watch Bonneville and Lower Granite and the Sawtooth return numbers and pretty much see the same data IDFG is seeing.

Well, that's about the size of it this fine Monday morning. Have Fun Fishing and Many Happy Cheers! John Parsons
