Had a nice day on the south fork today. Floated from swan valley bridge to Cottonwood with my dad and father in law as a late Father's Day trip.
We had steady action most of the day. We saw the most salmon flies from the bridge to conant, then they died off as we went further downstream. It was kind of a bummer because I thought they would be more thick in the canyon. There were, however, plenty of golden stones, yellow sallies, and PMD's hatching abundantly throughout the day. We caught a nice mix if cutts, browns, and whitties with only one straggler hybrid. Most were medium sized with a few good ones around 17-18 inches. My father in law had two nice cutts on that he broke off. The riffles were on fire in the morning and mid day, then the banks turned on later in the day.
If I were going this weekend I would use two basic set ups: yellow Sally with PMD dropper for the riffles and golden stone or salmon fly with a nymph of your choice dropper. I bet the upper river will be amazing through the weekend if you don't mind sharing the river with a thousand guide boats. Tight lines,
