In the past I have been primarily a stillwater fly fisherman. This year I have gotten much more into fly fishing the rivers nearby. It has been a pretty good year so far. Went up to I.P. for a family reunion this last weekend and managed to get away for a few hours and fish Henry's Lake. Pulled in my personal best of 19" at Henry's which I know isn't huge but was a good solid fish. Caught 8 in just a few hours ranging from 15-19". I have caught the stillwater bug again and am wanting to get out again soon. Was thinking of hitting up I.P. Reservoir but have not fished it. At one time I heard that if you didn't have a motor it wasn't worth it. Due to the distance you would have to row to get to any decent spots. Is this true? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Island park will be more difficult for a couple of months. You have to find places with cooler water ie springs, creeks etc... It can be difficult to get to those places without a boat. In the past Trudes Bay has been the best.

In September the fish will spread out a little and for me early Oct. is awesome at the west end fingers or even around the dam.

West End would be your best bet . If you can get over to Trudes , it has been good .I will be there tomorrow .

Good luck Curt.....looking forward to your report. I actually bought a boat to fit the whole family and is river compatible. Stillwater fly fishing trudes bays brings good memories. Sinking line and dark leach patterns work well for trout.

it is a long haul from the damn. is that where you launch?...anywhere else I fish on IP does not seem to produce very well for me.

I launch at Mill Creek until the lake get to low .Fishing was slow for me today. ? The people that got out ea
rly did well trolling flys .You can launch at

West End , if you don, t mind the long dirt road to get there .

Glad I got on here and read this. I will be camping at Buttermilk all next week. I guess I should apologize for my lack of posts for the last few months. Fishing for me this summer has been almost non-existent. I only hit Henry's 1 time so for and caught nothing but dinks and that is about it. Way to much working and running kids around to baseball games.
I am very excited to get a week off work even if the fishing isn't hot. I have not fished I.P. for about 10 years so I hope I can find some fish. I will probably hit Henrys a couple times also. Curt, How long does it take to motor from Buttermilk over to Trudes? I was thinking about 15 to 20 minutes cruising about 20 mph.. It has been way to long for me since I fished it. I will give my report when I get home. Thanks
