New to the forum but I've been taking notes for some time. I'm in the Blackfoot area.
I usually fish the Henry's but have been in a rut. I wait till late fall before I hit the SF but with all this talk about hot the fishing is on it right now i'm itching to get on.
so with out waiting a couple more months...what are the best wade options right now...went to Lorenzo with high hopes but only found high flows.
any basic info to get me going would be great.
thanks.

Swan valley is honestly your best bet for wading. The rest of the river is hard to access with out a boat. One thing I will stress is remember to respect the south fork no matter where you are on it. It is more than capable of taking a life if a mistake is made. Be safe and good luck.

The side channels are about your only bet at the current flows. There are some places to access the upper river in swan valley around the fall creek campground. Before I had a boat that's where I would fish with the flows where they are currently. Like Chromejunky said, however, be very cautious wading. Even the side channels are dangerous at the current flows. Hope this helps! Tight lines,

My rule of thumb on wading the south fork without using a boat to access areas is this.
Sub 4000cfs there are areas to explore and its safer the lower it gets, usually this is about the end of october through the first of march. Above that I feel like the SF is a river to not wade in with the exception of some of the bars you can hit while floating it from a boat. There are just too many areas with shelfs that go from knee deep to 20 feet deep in a step. That river has some strong hydrollics this time of year that need to be respected.
