Hit Boise area with lovemylavro this last week (8th and 9th). I'm not listing the specific area we hit on the 8th, the numbers were too high for me to openly report that! The 9th though we hit lucky peak. Anyway, first day we did a float with some friends. Started out a little slow but quickly picked up. They would hit just about any soft plastic you threw at them, as long as it wasn't a totally off the wall color like purple (think barney purple). But pumpkin, black, chartreuse, browns, greys. They loved them. We did tubes, jigs with mr. twister curly tails, Gulp Alive minnows (the hands down best bass slayer), and others. All produced. I actually suffered a fishing injury to the inside of my ring finger where it bumps up against my reel post and then on the underside of my middle finder where it rests on the reel seet itself just from all the solid hooksets. We have no true idea of the total number of bass caught that day but the estimate as best we can figure is over 200 fish for 3 of us. most were in just under 12 inches but there were some up to 14 inches pulled out. I also hooked something that started screaming line off. I got only a glimpse of it once when it changed direction and shot past the boat. Just as I reached to lighten the drag so i wouldn't lose it it snapped the line. I suspect catfish, but if I want to torture myself I let myself believe it was the new state record smallie [
]. Either way it was a great day. We even threw on the life jackets and just floated near the boat for a ways. I chose to grab a rod and fish while doing that and managed to land 5 fish no problem, other than trying to cast and keep my reel at face level out of the water, and hold my arms up that high all the time. Whole new fight in them this way!
The next day we headed to Lucky Peak. I'd never been there so it was cool just to see what I've heard many people talk about. Initially we got nothing. After a bit we chose to try trolling. I threw out a Kastmaster and caught a 14" trout first thing. After that nothing for some time. Couple nibbles, but that was it. Eventually we hooked a couple bass but it was still slow. Finally went into a really shallow area and found some bass holding. We went through tons of lures trying to find something that they would not run away from. Eventually we hit on rubber Helgies on an offset worm hook. It gave just enough weight to cast then let it slowly drift. They would often take it with no evidence that there was a hit until you noted the line wasn't acting quite the same, then set the hook! We only landed around 30 fish this day, but they were better size, in the 14-16" range! Over all a great time out and had fun on the west side of the state, as usual!
