I received a text from a friend at 10:00 Friday evening that asked if I wanted to meet him at Soldier Creek in the morning for a day chasing Kokes. That was a no brainer- of course I would be there. At 6:15 am we met up at the Soldier Creek ramp and were off. The rain tops went up on the way out, but the rain was short lived. Downriggers with dodgers and squid went out each side at 55 feet, and a lead core line with pop gear out the back as deep as we could get it. The fishing was not fast, but we managed 7 kokes in the boat with multiple fish lost on the way in. We also caught our fair share of rainbows and slot cutts - they all went back not wanting to fill a spot in our koke limits. It was a great day - I'll take all the late invites I can get.

Any size to the kokes? What colors were you using?

6 of the kokes were nice, good sized fish. I did not measure them but my guess is17-19 inches, maybe 3 lbs. 1 was smaller. I used a watermellon (green/red with black spots) dodger and a uv purple squid. Chuck used different colored dodgers in pink etc with a pink Kokanee killer trailing. We tipped with pink maggots (fake ones). We also used Kokanee scent on the dodgers. I actually caught 1 and had several on the lead line with cowbells and a pink/red Kokanee spinner (no clue the brand but I bought it at the HUB in Heber on the way up). I put on a 2 oz weight above the cowbells. The problem was to get down far enough with that set up (7 colors), it took forever to get them in and quite a few pulled free with those soft mouths by the time I got them in. Several came off at the boat as we were trying to get the net on them.
