My insurance is about up so I'm looking at different options. My current carrier quoted me higher than I think it should be compared to other carriers. Anybody have any advice? Companies to avoid, etc.
I've got a 2000 Viper Coral 202, 200 hp outboard, tandem axle trailer.

I don't have auto insurance with Allstate any more but I do have my boat insurance with them. I paid $25 a year on my old boat, my new boat is only is $50 a year for full coverage.

Please read the fine print when getting coverage - partically how much coverage you have on your fishing gear. Most will only cover $500 per tackle bag/box and so much per rod/reel without proof of value.
Me personally can put $500 in one lure box - that's 100 spoons/lures at $5 each - let alone a full tackle bag.
I have mine through Nationwide and have extra coverage on the value of my gear - added $5000 for gear. example Electric Downriggers $425 each and even a anchor would be $30 to replace.
Cost for mine is about $260 per year .
I realize you should only use your boat insurance for major losses but you need to at least cover what you will need to replace.

I've always had $3,000 on my gear. I've seen between $220 and $318 for the same coverage I'm looking for. I haven't checked Nationwide yet. Thanks.
Curt, how do you get away with $50 for full coverage! I'm jealous.

Wow I guess I have lucked out with USAA. 62 bucks a year cover almost 10k in gear and motor replacement on my scadden

It is likely the difference of the added insurance on the gear that is making the difference. I'm not too worried about loosing all my gear, besides mine isn't worth the same as your gear[

Mine is on my homeowners, 300,000 and I tournament fish. Had an accident a few years ago and things worked out great. I live in Idaho don't know about Utah. Anything and anybody on board. On the highway it is on the auto policy. Now I'm curious about theft in a hotel parking lot, I'll check it out.

That's one of my concerns-theft. I take everything out of, off of or in my boat when I'm done fishing. Maybe I'm paranoid but better safe than sorry. There is nothing I can do to stop a thief from taking my boat. I can slow him down but that's about it.
I was in Texas for a Mega Bass tournament and had several thousands worth of gear/electronics in the boat and had a hard time sleeping knowing that it was just sitting there unprotected so I could launch at first light with no delays.
I'll look into my homeowners to see what options I have. Once again, thanks for the pm's and replies everyone.

I had an interesting thing happen with my insurance. Went into my agent at Allstate and set up a policy for a boat from 1967 with a 65 Hp merc on it. Paid it in full. Two weeks later I get a notice that it is being canceled. Went back to my agent and handed them the letter. They had a really

look on their face when they started looking into it. Apparently someone back east thinks a 15' glass boat with a 65 Hp merc (max Hp is 80) can go 75 mph. Crazy! They went back in and fixed the problem. So far no more notices of cancellation yet.[bobdumb]

So how much did it cost you through Allstate?

Not being too paranoid. We had our boat out in our driveway, with a snap on cover. Went out one day and notice the cover unsnapped. All the rods were gone and the knobs to the radio laying on the floor. That part was funny as the stock radio was terrible.
But that was right outside our bedroom window. Dog was barking but we didn't pay much attention. Learned to.

$75 for 1 year , 100,000 liability. Got discounts due to having completed Utah boating course a few years back and I have auto and home through them too.
