I had planned on fishing all day on Tuesday, it would have been perfect. It was overcast and breezy most of the day, so the fish would have been active and my wife was busy all day. Unfortunately my car had other plans once again and I spent the day waiting around to get a new alternator put in. So when the opportunity arose for a quick trip after work, I had to jump on it.
I had to put in at a different spot as I didn't want to encroach on the people that were already at my usual spot. I ended up launching in a much shallower area than I've been fishing. It was a hot, sunny day, and the fish definitely weren't that active. I worked my way towards deeper water and found the creek channel. I caught a dink, then a 12", then my rod doubled over. I wasn't sure if my deep diving crankbait had run into a mass of weeds at first. Then my drag started peeling off. She did end up diving into the weeds, but I was able to pull her out eventually. I finally landed my prize, a fat 18" bass.

I'm not sure what the sore on the gill plate is from. Hopefully it isn't anything too harmful.
After that, things got tough. I caught some dinks, and a few in the 12-14" range. I fished various deep cranks and a drop shot. Finally, as the sun got lower, the wind died and it wasn't so blasted hot anymore. I drug my crank past a small point, and a little better fish loaded up, complete with nasty cheek sore.

I broke out the topwater and got an explosive strike on a Lucky Craft Gunfish. That's a fun lure to fish, but it proved a little too aggressive for most of the fish. I toned it down and tied on a Megabass Pop X, a small, finesse popper. I caught a bunch of smaller fish, even a few bluegill, but couldn't find any good ones. I decided to call it a night and headed back towards my car. When I was almost back to my landing point, I saw a couple of small swirls on the surface that almost looked like trout rises they were so small and gentle. Still, I thought why not, and tossed my lure to them. I twitched it twice, and my lure disappeared in a large boil. I swept the hook into her and I could immediately tell that this wasn't the fish I was expecting at all. Then she jumped with a loud karsploosh. I was using a medium light spinning rod with 8lb line. She had the rod doubled and was pulling off a lot of line. I wasn't sure if I'd land her or not, but eventually I scooped up my obese prize.

After releasing her, I made a few more casts and caught about a 13" and a dink. It was pretty much dark now, and I still had work to worry about in the morning, so I called it a night. I ended up with 36 bass, 3 bluegill and a perch.
