I took a boat full of kids and adults to Mantua on Sunday afternoon hoping to get into the gills like we did a few weeks ago. The gills didn't want to play, but the moss was really bad were we were catching them last time. We did wind up with on small bass though caught by the youngest person in the boat (4 yr old girl). She kept telling us she had a fish but no one believed her until she got it most of the way in! Slow day on the water, but good times had by all.

I'm going to hit East Canyon this furlough friday with my nephew so maybe we can redeem ourselves with the fish...

East canyon was the toughest I've ever had for smallies last weekend. The trout seemed to bitting well though. My bro caught quite a few drifting a crawler.

That's too bad because I definitely wanted to focus on the smallies for the most part with the trout as plan B. My nephew is at the age where I think he would like to throw jigs and such for the smallies. The kid is crazy about fishing which makes it a blast to take him.

Any crappie love?

Thanks for the help

No crappie. I'm going to hit Deer Creek tonight. I 've heard that is is fishing well for bass and I have done good there this time of year. Might be a better option.

Great - I'd love to hear how do there.

Fished deer creek 7/23/13 evening. Smallies were hitting pop R's and zara spooks when the sun started to go down. 3 inch senkos put a few in the boat too. Most fish were pretty small under 12 inches. Did catch a few largies that were slightly bigger, but nothing to brag about.
