I had been meaning to take Ricky (lovetofish) out again for another crappie trip and we finally made it this morning. North wind blowing, but not too hard. It was cool and made the day nice. Can't say that it helped the fishing any. emoBig

We hit 5 open water spots and caught some fish off each spot. Not all spots had keeper size fish on them though, but even 9" crappie are fun to catch.

I fished for a while with a Lake Fork bait on a 1/16 oz jig head with no success. Tried a different color and again, no success. Put on a Bobby Garland 2" shad on a 1/16 oz jig head and caught a keeper on first cast. I switched back and forth throughout the morning, but never did catch a crappie on the Lake Fork.

Fish seemed to be in the 10 to 20 foot range. The last hour of the morning, they were deep, about a 20 plus count and then dead sticking at the boat. We never did find the fish to be aggressive today. Sometimes, the line would just tighten slightly, we would set the hook and the fish would be on. Other times, the line would just go slack like the lure had hit the bottom, but with the depths that we were fishing, we knew that wasn't on bottom. Set the hook and the fish would be on. They will get more aggressive during the upcoming new moon phase. That occurs this Tuesday.

We caught about 44 fish, kept 11 for dinner for Ricky and me, kept 2 white bass, and threw back 2 largemouth and had one long distance release on a spotted bass. We fished from 7ish to high noon.

thanks for going with me today, Ricky. We will do this again sometime. emoBig emoGeezer
