Aug 1
The wind shifted and the smoke came in hard and fast. Fires as far away as California, Nevada, and Oregon were contributing smoke, but the real problem was the fires in the Magic Valley Region. I headed out and up to higher ground.
Time to put the nasty stuff in the rear view mirror. (sorry, poor picture. It doesn’t pay to take pictures and drive at the same time!)
The smoke layer was thick enough that it was hard for the sunset to even show through as I left.
Oh well, the fish were waiting for me further away. The further I went, the better the air and the fish! The first night I pretty much just got the trailer unhooked and set up for the night.
Aug 2 - Friday
I packed up a couple of meals and plenty of snacks for the day and went exploring. I went on some pretty narly mountain roads. There are only a few places to get past another vehicle.
I fished in a couple of different creeks, and the fish were happy to see me.... and I them! Most that I caught were 10 to 16 inches, but I saw some larger ones that I spooked. That is the way it always goes. I was amazed at how high some of them jumped. Awesome aerials for browns and cutts.
The water was clear and low, as it seems all of our streams are right now.
The colors on the fish were dazzling. I wish it came out as vibrant in pictures as it is in person.
A birthmarked cutthroat?
This one was an amazing bright gold and pink.
And the browns weren’t far behind on good looks.
A close up of the gold and blue cheeks on this one. Cool!
Spots!
A last colorful handful from this creek.
Lots of water weeds this year. Some sections only had narrow trails through the jungle.
Aug 3
I fished a little bit on a creek in the morning hours. It is an amazingly brushy creek, but has some fun holes. This picture is of the only open section where they did some remediation work.
I didn’t spend much time on it as I was still tired from the long day on Friday But I caught some nice brookies and a few wild rainbows and cutbows. I kept two cutbows and ate them for lunch. They aren't supposed to be in there ...so two of them aren't anymore. Unfortunately it's a mixed gene pool. The cuttbows were small, dark, and deeply colored.
Pretty fish, and tasty too.
I visited a couple of other creeks, but unfortunately my camera battery died before my exploring and fishing did. Sooooo..
This is the end. The back end of a pair of twin fawns and a doe that is. I only got a picture of the doe’s posterior. A fitting end for a longwinded post! [shocked][laugh] (one of the fawns is behind the fence post)
