Saw this on the UDWR's fishing report:

Fair Northern pike and walleye fishing has slowed down a bit. Rapalas, or similar types of lures, are working for the northern pike in 5 to 20 feet of water. Anglers are occasionally catching walleye, too. Please be courteous to the recreational boaters on the water.

I added the emphasis.

I gotta wonder how someone who is fishing could be discourteous to a recreational boater?

Place your shots no closer than 50 feet from their bow as they speed by.

I think my people are catapulting small carps maybe some monster pikes at boats, wave runners, wake boarders, and water skiers.

That last statement makes zero sense. The only way they could be harrassed is if they're zipping by too close to a fisherman to get a weight to the side of the head [crazy].

Wait, you mean not every fisherman carries a paintball gun on their boat to keep the speed demons away? [angelic]

Aren't fishermen recreationalist too? Boats moving in and crowding? I have had several fishing boats cruise too close and between me and a targeted shore line.
Just a thought, but I take it as everyone, not just non fishing boats.

Oh thats a great ideal. Might buy one some day [laugh]

That's stupidity not irony.

Looks like someone is taking a little joke too seriously.

Some fisherman probably yelled at some dumb kids on a boat for being jack asses... and they cried about it.

At least that's how I'm going to imagine it.[Smile]

I got it. I got it. What the really mean is when we see them coming and we are in the line they want to move through we need to pull anchor (if you are at anchor) retrieve all lines and move out of there way. Especially if you are in some kind of self powered craft like a float tube or pontoon. [cool][Tongue][Wink]

Taken as it is written, that is a bit much!

The only valid scenario I could imaging is the people fishing the banks and from the boat docks in the launching areas. If that is what they meant, they should have explained a little more.

I wish that they would have list of "water rules" that all boaters would have to sign before they launch. Something along the lines of the invasive species papers that are now used. Would it make a difference? Probably not, unless there is some enforcement with it.

What a load of Bovine Scatology !!! Especially at Yuba. Last time I was there, a large Wake Board boat with full tanks went ripping through the narrows, not more the 50 ft from me. There were at least 3 other boats fishing there and a dozen or so on the bank. They went through, turned around and came back through, throwing a huge wake both ways. If I had not been playing a large Pike at the time, I would have run them down.

The lack of courtesy by skiers, boarders, and jet skis is out of control and it is a wonder we don't see more fatalities like the one at Pineview a year or so ago. Yuba is totally out of control, the number of boats there requires some major supervision and I don't believe that the boys in SLC have a clue !! It is just far enough away from SLC that they feel they don't have to pay any attention. I know in the past, when Ranger Pat was in charge, there was him and one assistant to manage the campground, the lake, and everything else. They have some seasonal people now, but they need to have at least two boats on the water by 8AM to manage the traffic !! That goes for Deer Creek, Jordanelle, Willard, and Pine View, Utah lake is big enough that you rarely see major problems.
You all really need to come down and take a look at Sandhollow on any given week-end. Don't get me wrong, there are wakeboarders and skiers out there that actually know the rules (both written and unwritten) and are not a problem, but Sadly they are in the minority. Jet skis..........well that's another story all together. Funny that a statement like that shows up in a fish report.
