Full Version: Fly Rod warranty success

So, my fly rod has been broken for about 4 years and I just barely got around to sending it in for replacement. It was a Redington Red Start 8'6" from my birthday about 15 years ago with a lifetime warranty (a nice gift from my brother who figured he could also use it). I broke the tip off once before and all I had to do was take it in to the store and they handed us a new one off the shelf, pretty cool.

Since they were bought out by Sage they apparently don't do that anymore so it took me a while to print out the form, write my $30 check, and get it shipped (I know, 4 years is a long time to procrastinate). Turn-around was about a week, and they sent me a 9' Voyant 4 pc. with a new case for it and added return labels for when I break it again. All in all a very pleasant return experience.

Hopefully I'll manage to get out and fly fish more now that I have a working rod again. Smile

Fifteen years!!!!! Who warranty's anything for that long anymore. That's awesome. After all that, you better get out and use it.

I've broken a few Redingtons, and I've always had a good experience. Their warranty was really easy before, but I feel like their rods are better quality now, and I like getting the upgrade to the new model after it's been a few years.

I would think most fly rod companies do. [Smile] With the higher prices, they have to offer that or people wouldn't buy them.

Yeah, I suggested one of the $25 dollar Eagle Claw fly rods to a friend to start out cheap, but you are right, it wouldn't take long to break a few of those and end up paying as much as one with a good warranty.

I may still have $30 S&H every time I have to replace it now, but the rod quality should be better.

Orvis had to go to the $30. as well a few years back because people were deliberately breaking them to get a new one. Kinda too bad, but we did it to ourselves.
