I read this same article this very morning. My 3yr old little boy is Autistic, and if one of my neighbors left this junk on my doorstep I'd be knocking on doors until I found the coward. This isn't the Rough and Rowdy section so I can't put what I REALLY think about this lady.
Edit: I just showed this article to my Wife. Blood boil is an understatement. I now have an irate Sicilian woman pacing my house [laugh]

A radio from hell listener? This story was the winner of "Boner of the Day" today.

That's really bad. My sisters husband has a kid from a previous marriage that is autistic. Still though, I never bought into the whole ordeal that was made about it back when I was in high school. Back in high school they tried making us pledge not to say the "r" word. Never bought into that.

The person that wrote that letter is very selfish and thinks only of themselves. [pirate]

Not only a listener but a workers union member.[cool] The other two were pretty bad but this one definitely took the cake!

Yeah if I was the dad or mom I would be tearing up that neighborhood looking for the b****** who wrote it!
Oh man a pissed off Sicilian!!! Better hope you don't piss her off or you'll end up waking up next to a horse head! [laugh]

Not only that they obviously haven't taken the time to understand the boy and his parents. I think selfish is an understatement!

I understand if you say it describing a situation or an object...but when it comes to others (especially if they're handicapped in some way) it should not be said. I was in a club called the Best Friends Club where we would stay after school with the special ed kids and hangout with them for an hour or two...it really opened up my eyes to the kids and the parents struggles.

They might have had that club at my school too or it might been called best buddies or something like that. Yeah I never say it if someone like that is present. I just remember one particular incident where class was going on and I was just talking with some buddies(obviously can't remember what about). But yeah, I was just talking about a story or situation and some girl I wasn't even talking to got PISSED at me. I remember catching her glaring at me and whispering probably nasty things about me periodically during the rest of class. I'm a nice guy but when I get mad, I'm mad. I wanted to say it more on purpose just to piss her off but luckily my friend I was talking to got me calmed down.
I really do have respect for autistic kids and their parents however. Heck, the autistic kid I know is smarter than me with electronics! He can figure out how to turn on any persons tv/get it to the proper setting to play video games and literally anything with electronics. Just the other day he was at my house while my sister and I were putting together a garden table for my mom's birthday. He wanted to play some play station harry potter game on my other sisters tv. She wasn't there and we couldn't figure out how to get it on the proper setting and he was about to throw a fit but he ended up figuring out how to do it himself!
I honestly think you're making it be offensive if there's not anyone like that present. I just don't think saying stupid or some other word with the same meaning is any better. The reality of it is there's word like cus words and hurtful words but shouldn't but we do it.

Perhaps instead of worrying who is around when you use potentially offensive language you could find a better word to use.

Just as soon as the GEEZER quiets down he'll post some thoughts.

I have a grandson who deals with a mild case of ASD (autism symptom disorder) and it tears my heart out to see him struggle with it.
At first I was so enraged by that heartless, cruel, asinine letter that I seriously wanted to find the ignorant, heartless a--hole that wrote it and pound them to a pulp. I slept on it and I guess I'm getting soft but I have come to pity the poor soul. What a miserable existence they must have to live every day filled with that kind of cruel, hateful thoughts. A part of me wants them to continue suffering in that world as just desserts for their cruelty but another part wants hope that the Almighty sees fit to release them from the hate filled hell they must be living in.
