I've made 3 or 4 night time trips to DC to catch walleye but have struck out every time.
I did have something on really nice at about 1 am last trip but lost him at the boat. For all I know it was a scale hooked carp.
I usually start fishing about 7 or 8 pm and fish until 1 or 2 am. I've caught my fair share of trout and bass but never an eye.
I start out bottom bouncing for the first couple of hours and then switch to cranks behind a planer board as close to shore as possible. On the other side of the boat I will run a variety of cranks.
All to no avail.
I am getting desperate and would probably pay a guide to teach me but I am hoping all you fine folks here at BFT might share some tips to save me some cash.

How deep are you fishing and where ?

I fish <20 fow and almost everywhere except the dam. The only eye I have ever caught at DC was in 12' just under the Creeper about midpoint of the lake. I haveb b'd almost the whole shoreline, bb'd/cranked/jigged the island flats, and cranked almost the whole shoreline. I can catch eyes at UL,Willard,Starvy,JR,and Yuba.
DC has really got under my skin.

Okay, night fishing for Walleye at DC or even Starvation is pretty simple, BIG cranks on the shore line. Casting is the most efficent way to work them, not trolling. Remember, Walleye have the advantage over most prey fish in low light conditions, those big marble eyes have developed for a purpose, to see prey before they see you. Back in the 80's there was a group of guys, Greg Jonas, Randy Jones, and a few others that were beating the heck out of big walleye by throwing cranks at night. They used mostly the big Shad Raps, size 9 and even the big Musky size. You are fishing shallow, not deep because they are up roaming the shoreline for prey, small fish, crayfish, mice, frogs, etc. Good luck and be safe, we lost Greg when he was fishing by himself and went after his boat w/o his life jacket !!! You will probably get a bonus Brown or two in the process !!!

No hard feelings towards DC, but unless it's May-June, it ain't worth the time & the money.

Looks like next spring I shall try fly fishing at night with some crawdad, mousies, and popper to catch a walleye on a fly rod shall be exciting to try and catch one on a fly rod.

try the rapla f-18 in perch and black/gold. cast them to the shore line and reel back slowly. I've done very well doing this in the past when the water was high and around the full moon nights.

Sounds like night fishing has been tough. i have not had much luck recently with night fishing. Good Luck
