I know this belongs on off topic or something, but had to share . . .

A friend just handed over a hand-carved bow he's been working on for - some time. Made from a branch of Siberean (Chinese) Elm collected from my property. He carved, curved, and sanded it down to this art-piece! I'm floored!

Scared to draw it back, to thread the line, but this is a strong hunk of wood. He knows the nature of wood fibers, splitting, curving, stretching. Wound the string himself, and rubbed it all down with mineral oil.

Tried blasting some boxes tonight, and what a treat! My aim sux big, but once I got to lining my sights - the box had NO MERCY! This is just SO cool I can't pretend. I want to hang it on a wall for show, it's so pretty, but I also want to learn to make "raw" arrows that I might use for bowfishing, but skp the whole line and reel business. Maybe strap a BFT flag on the end of the arrows, now THAT would be entertaining!

Anyone work with primitive bows? I've chatted with some that do, this just has me tickled to the bone! I need to giver 'er a name!
Ideas?

You're right this does belong on another board, but hey its a nice bow.[:p] I used to have a book on making arrows but not sure where I put it. [:/]

I studied Cherokee bow making and have the hand tools and Osage Orange bow staves. It's part of my collection of preparedness skills.

I, too, want to bow fish someday. A bow fishing trip with anyone into it will be a greatly appreciated learning oppportunity and I always pay my way.

When I first got a little into archery, I started with the modern compound bow and sights. At the time of a deer hunt, my hunting skills were far superior to my archery skills. I could get plenty close to large bucks, but lacked the skill and confidence to shoot a moving target. Since then, I switched to the instinctive style of shooting with the traditional bow. I'll devote time to practice before my next archery hunt, but for now, I'm very much into fishing. But, bow fishing fits into my current learning of an assortment of different fishing skills.

I have a buddy that is into self bows. He tells me there is a shop here in Ogden that is allegedly one of the biggest suppliers of parts for the self bow, I think Bingham bow or something.

Pretty cool bow.
