I am itching to take a trip down to strawberry for some fall fishing. Ive been there many times both in the spring and fall from the shore and have done well.. By my standards anyways.. To me a few large cutts have been enough to consider it a great day, but with all these stories of consistent 40+ fish days, Im starting to get the feeling im doing something wrong? I guess my biggest downfall is that i do not own a boat, so it limits my options a lot. My question is: can i achieve those same numbers from the shore? What lures should i use? Where should i go? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Im considering heading down there next weekend, is this a good time for shore fishing or should i wait? Thanks!!

From shore I think you are doing great if you catch fish on a regular basis. Best day I have had from shore is 5 fish with many a skunk. From my boat I always catch a lot of fish.

Try pming duckdog1us. He has shore fishing down to a science. Catches a bunch and Big ones too.[

Ill try that thanks! Good news though, my dad told me that we'll be able to use a canoe with a trolling motor, does this up my chances?

I was down there on Monday and only did "fair". Two of us were in my boat and only caught about 18 fish between the two of us. One BIG thing I noticed was that the water temp ranged from 60 to 62 degrees ... way too hot for my kind of "fall" fishing on the Berry. I have found that the water temp needs to get down to 55 or below before the real shallow action begins. Then I would think that bank fishing could be almost as good as fall fishing from a boat.
When I get home from work, I'll shoot you a PM with my notes on my favorite "fall" lures, locations, and techniques. The notes are ment to be used from a boat but I have heard of folks applying much it to fall bank fishing with reasonable success.

Significantly.
Just be careful out there as Strawberry can get scary quickly when the wind starts blowing.

A boat will definitely help, but remember, you put a motor on it you have to license it. I know one person got a ticket for not.
Also remember there is a full moon.
I fished it the 6th through 11th. Some days 25 - 30 then a couple days close to 100. It is always changing . That's why it's called fishing......

yeah im aware of the license. im not dead set on when to go, do you guys have predictions on when strawberry will reach the right temperature?

Can only give my experience, it changes day to day. Mon. and Tues I could do no wrong and can't really see how those two days could have been any better. Following Sat. I had to work harder.
But, same flies, just different depths....

A bad day fishing still beats a good day at work!
It has been good and is getting better. If you can only go once this fall this is not the weekend to go. The weather wont be the greatest. The moon is full. It is still kind of warm, waterwise anyways.
Good luck and go fishing anytime you can.

Definitely Agree! Luckily ill be able to go a few times during the fall season. Im thinking maybe the last week of this month or first week of october. Thoughts?

On the water at 2:45 off at 7:00 pm. 26 fish between the two of us, me 15 and my buddy 11. Good mix of Cutts' and Bows' fished Strawberry Bay by boat using white tube jigs tipped with crawler, best action was casting and retrieving.
You could put your canoe in by the parking lot off of highway 40 and fish the bay, water temps are dropping and fishing is picking up, good luck.

If I were only able to make it to Strawberry for just one day of Fall fishing down there, I would plan my trip around Halloween (give or take a week). That is the best bang for your buck. Weather still not too bad but the cuts are up in the shallows slurping up the chubs. Tip your jigs with a piece of cut chub and cast toward the bank (5-15 feet deep) and retrieve.

I fish Strawberry quite a bit, and have had some epic days, and I can tell you from a fly fishing standpoint, that there are 40 fish days, but consistent 40 fish days don't think so. I know some pretty fair still water fisherman, and they may catch fish when the less experienced may be struggling, but consistent 40 fish days, I would have to be there to believe it .
I have seen people on the shore have some pretty good days, or at least seen them bringing in fish while I was on the water, whether they have a 40 fish day don't know. Sounds like you know what to do from shore, and will do well . Great time of year to fish Strawberry.

I just got home from Strawberry. Out on the water at around 8:30. By 9:30 I had ten strong healthy trout with 4 more release at the net.
Not an epic day but in 3 hours I cam close[
]
Wind kicked in hard and fast at 11 so I was off the water by 11:30.
Some very good sized Bows and Cutts in the net and several doubles.
I do feel the full moon changed the bite. Water 58 degrees.

Sounds like ill do quite well from the sound of things. Just wondering what you guys would suggest if i took my motorized canoe out for a spin. What technique would you guys suggest and where can i be safest in terms of avoiding the wind?
