The Boise Nat Forest has a Flickr page that shows much of the wash out and fire damage on the South Fork of the Boise. It may be a very long time for it to recover. I know that it is currently closed and who knows when it will be open again. Hope the fish survive the mud flows. Sad to see!

Wow, that doesn't look good. I was up there shortly before the fire and wondered what it looked like after. Thanks for sharing the photos. I don't like all the mud flowing into the river but it is such a good ecosystem and those fish are really strong. The reports I am hearing reflect cautious optimism but the erosion situation will certainly be tenuous over the next several years. My money is on Mother Nature on this deal and I hope it will recover quickly.
The Middle Fork of the Boise got blown out, what 20 or 25 years ago? It took several years to recover but I think that was more devastating that what recently happened on the South Fork.
I'm just glad I got a chance to fish it before this tragedy.

Thanks for posting CP. I'm going with Eric's take on this and remain optimistic. Mother natural will rebound it's just a mater of time.

I am sure it will rebound, but as you say, it will take time. It is just

to see the devastation that the fires have left behind.
I would rather see large fire breaks from logging in some of our forests. It won't stop all the fires, but might reduce the size of some of them. Just my opinion.

Keeping them from burning just compounds the issue and makes it worse. Halting smaller burns allows the fuel load to stockpile to the point that when it does finally burn it burns so hot that it devastates the area and it takes longer to recover. Best thing for a forest's health is to let it do small periodic burns to keep the fuel load to a minimum.
It will recover just like every other watershed that has burn previously. Just may not occur as fast as some of us would like it to.

Dang it has been a crazy fall for sure weather wise. It will be a few years to recover from this.

Snowmobiling ought to be awesome. Fire makes the trees and the fishes grow. The place was really getting overgrown. Let her burn!
