Decided to hunt some blues up for a change and try some new water. Had a few areas I had scouted out from the air in mind and wanted to see if I could settle into a new spot or two. Of course I was by myself so I tried to plan accordingly...ha

Had to get a trailer tire replaced on the way, but it went smooth and very fast. Grabed a few bottles of water and a load of gas, and off to the river! Motored around quite a bit checkin some stuff out, and decided to start by drifting. It seemed the current was up a bit, and the first drift came up with 3 fish, mostly small 5 lb eaters. Adjusted the drift next go and came up with 2 fish, again bout 5 lbs. Started another line, and pulled up a really fat 19lber. One of the FATTEST blues Ive ever seen! I stared at him for the longest time wondering what in the world he swallowed!
Next drift down same line hit a nice 25 lber right as a steamboat went by. They stopped and watched, and even got an applause after landing it. I could tell a few photos were taken, which felt a bit odd. You can see the steamboat leaving in the one shot.
Then my camera started acting up, and the next drift peg a 34, which I failed to get a shot of. Altogether I end up with 17 fish on the drift, which was really good in my book. Again mostly eaters, but I was happy. Then evening hit and the bite was dead.

I start anchoring up on a nearby spot that I didn't have confidence in. My gut was right, as for 45 min not a single bite. I pull anchor and decide to hit a spot Ive really been itchy to try for a few days. After 15 min, a reel goes screaming, and all I can do is just hold on until he stops. But he never did. He hauled downstream and broke off. I know that fish probably would have been my new PB. I re-rig and throw a massive head of fish on and toss it back out along with the other three rods. Suddenly another reel starts screaming and its on! After a lovely fight, a really nice 53 lb is aboard! Smile
Just as I release it, another reel starts peeling, and a back breaking 18 minute fight gives up a really nice 67Lb. However while fighting it, the other two rods load up and I have a real mess on my hands. Three big fish on at the same time. I have some video to show of it. One breaks off in something, but the other had a nice 41 lber on it.
I call it a night after that. Thankful to the Lord for the great evening and to get to see some of his beautiful creatures!
