Full Version: Water Temps at the Berry for Saturday?

Headed to the Berry tomorrow for some early fall fishing. The surface water temperatures are one of my closest watched factors for best fall fishing down there. When the water surface temperature gets down to 55 or below, that's when I seem to have my best days down there.

Does anyone know what the water temp is down there right now?

Whatever it is, I still be there tomorrow. But I am curious.

Man, the [url "http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=40.16418235037417&lon=-111.148681640625&site=slc&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=text"]weather forcast[/url] looks great and there won't be much (if any) [url "http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/strawberry_reservoir_marina"]wind[/url] either in the morning. Can't wait!

Ralph,

If it isn't there it should be real close. Just bring along a little ice if it isn't quite there.[Wink] I will also be there tomorrow fishing from a pontoon boat with two other men. I'm to teach them how to vertically jig. Hope we have a great day on the water and I also hope the forecast of minimal wind is reality tomorrow.

Cool, I'll look out for you guys. Heck, we might even be fighting over your favorite spot.[sly]

Around the same Saturday on the Strawberry side. Big Lake [Smile]

yes very big lake. Should probably see the temps start to drop a little with all this stormy weather though.

Specially the snow. Freezing night up that way, but back in the 70s next week.

When I talked to Terry at Aspen Grove marina this AM it was 32degrees and trying to snow. If the cloud cover disappears tonight it will be colder than a stepmothers kiss at dawn. Wear your long jons. There was 5' of snow on the top of the manti's at 10AM according to a friend of mine that was snowed out at his job site.

If my group of disabled kids cancels due to the cold, I'll go to Yuba to try to beat this one I caught last Friday, if they want to brave it I will be on the big pontoon boat competing with you guys for a cut or two over the slot. I am scheduled again Sunday with a group of disabled vets.

NICE! Tough decision there friend, but the weekend will be a whole lot different than the past few days.

Weekend looks pretty good. Saturday a little cooler then Sunday, but forecasting breezy on Sunday afternoon 15-25 mph , never see too many days when it is not breezy in the afternoon . Overall should be a great weekend to fish Strawberry.

Well Ralph, I think you got your 55 or below water temps (at least for awhile in the morning), so how did you do?

We finally found them after moving several times. We ended up a little to the east and out a little further (in 24' of water) from where you saw us in the morning. We ended up with around 80 fish, which was a tad slow, but not too bad. Around 1/3 of them were rainbows, which was a pleasant surprise. None over the slot.

Mostly Rainbow for me too and they are THICK.

Very nice bow Joni, looks to be 3 to 4 lb, is that close? Good to see more of them getting so big.

I think I have weighed one fish in my life[Smile]. Don't have a scale and no way could I possibly guess. Just a thick 22 to 24".
Thanks.[cool]

Yea, I feel your pain Kent. Kinda frustrating when ya only average 27 a piece. Bumer.

If that is a "tad slow", I only wonder what you would consider normal, good, or great.

Me and my friend only boated about a dozen. I don't know what we were doing wrong. We probably spent too much time driving around the lake looking for prime "location, location, location".

But I must say, it sure was a nice day to be out fishing the Berry.

For this time of year, up until it freezes:

Normal 40 each
Good 50-60 each
Great 80-100 each

That said, I have also had days, even this time of year, when I would have been thrilled to get a dozen.

We would have caught many more had my guests been more actively fishing. Much of their fishing amounted to dropping their line down, watching the rod until they got a bite and then running to grab the rod before the fish got away. But they were enjoying themselves, so that is all that matters.
