Finally decided to head up to the berry for some shore fall fishing, took my other half with me, and let me just say that she was an absolute trooper the whole time! Arrived at 8 and picked up a couple fish with a jointed rapala within few minutes. As soon as the bite came it was gone and we were on the move again.
Arrived at another spot and it was hot fishing for about 10 minutes or so with kasmasters and rapalas. 4 slot cutts plus a 13 incher we decided to keep. Again the bite was gone as fast as it came, definitely started noticing a pattern. I tried a lucky craft pointer at one point... Terrible idea, first cast i was hung up and $15 were surrendered to the depths. (im gunna save my expensive lures for my canoe trip) moved again and found a school of small rainbows that would bite everything we threw at them, enjoyed the ferocity of the bows for about an hour or so but by then it was around 4:30 and novelty of the rainbows was wearing off quickly. we decided to go to one last spot before calling it a day.
This time i decided to switch to an itty bitty sized white tube jig. I had my doubts about such a small lure attracting fish but i honestly think i have found my new favorite lure to use in the shallows.
Not only is the small tube easily maneuvered through the thick reeds of the shoreline but i caught about 4 large slot cutts within 10 minutes. All very close to shore, i was actually able to watch as the fish grabbed the jig from the surface.
All in all it was a great day, not a ton of fish but quality time spent with quality fish and company.
Any shore anglers who are heading to the berry i suggest you wear waterproof boots, the shoreline in most areas is extremely muddy and you can sink to your knees in some places!

Thanks for the report. I have to agree with the mud. Found that out this past Tuesday.

I thought you launched at Soldier Creek ramp.
Mud up there is sticky, I look for gravel shores for sure[Smile]
Alone, Any clues as to the areas you were able to fish?
We were there from 8:30 to noon, in pontoons.

We fished the strawberry side for most of the day. First couple spots were bays in between strawberry marina and haws point. There was always a hike involved, i avoid other fishermen as much as possible even if i hive to hike a few miles. I have found that my best luck has been in spots where people rarely go.
Last spot was on the soldier creek side. Definitely a higher traffic spot but luckily it was just us two when we got there. Lots of reeds and hard not to get hung up, thats where the small tube came into play.

I did launch at the ramp but I did have to step off onto the shore momentarily.[Wink]

Nice updtae sounds like fishing is getting hot up there now. was there last week and caught one 24 cutt from shore on a worm floating for the top.

I thought it was hotter three weeks ago, but the bite is still on and it will get better (I hope)[Smile]
