It was time to go fish after moving and putting in a yard its been a while. My mom had never caught a Northern so I wanted to take her to see if she could get one. She caught 2 and she was happy with the first one she caught that was a baby, so the second one she caught was like icing on the cake she was so happy. I was also on a quest to find a 40" pike we fished from 9 - 3 so at the last stop of the day a beast grabbed my line and the fight was on!! I could only imagine what was at the other end of my line. The beast finally run out of steam and my net was a little small. My mom was trying to net this thing thank god she got it. We were both excited as all thinking he was going home to get mounted. Pulled out the yard stick and 36" is what he measured far bigger than any I had caught in the past but still not my goal so a few pics and he was back in the water. I wish now I would have took a girth measurement and a few more Pics for a replica this think was thick and heavy. All in all me and my mom had a blast with a total of 7 all together it was a great time.

A great post and photos. Thanks for sharing. My mom and I used to fish Diamond Fork nearly 60 years ago. I wished I had pictures to go with those memories. Take care of your mom like you are doing and when she is gone your face will light up with a

as you remember the times you spent with her.

Your a good son! Makes me look bad.

Yes I will treasure all the times I have had with my mom and dad, and hopefully a lot of more fun times to come. We have been fishing together for a long time, I love taking them out when I can as they are the ones that taught me to love the outdoors and especially fishing[

If only I could get my mother to fish I would put her on some northerns!
I as well am on the quest to beat 40 inches. Unfortunately my wrists cannot handle the fight of northerns so I think my next chance to beat 40 inches will be on the ice.[fishon]
Be sure to post up a pic of the mount when its done.

Now that's a fine thing you're doing there, fishin' with the ones that got ya into it in the first place. I tip my greasy, carp-stained hat to ya.

Tyedye what's the deal with your wrists. I couldn't imagine not being able to fight a fish. That would be a bad nightmare.

Tomorrow im taking my mom and my dad so hopefully the Northern's will be willing to come and play.

Just tendinitis from working too much. Lots of rest and Vitamin C for me!
Luckily I can fight 7 to 10 inch trout on a spin rod but as you know that is pretty much just pike bait/lure size[laugh].
I have to admit I have been jealous of the pike squad on here. I thought this fall I would be down there every weekend.

Nice toothers - still wanna keep your fingers out of their mouths! (for SURE!)
Wish we had more Pike around. Nice fishes! Great getting out with the fambly.
I hear ya on the wrist deals. Had some carp battles this year that were just downright tiresome! (but kept me laughing and grinning the whole way!)
When you crank down the drag and the STILL take off and run run run - it's fun, but sometimes I wonder - ok, do I wanna do THAT again?
I'll be down there in an aluminum big canoe with motor. hope the fishing is good, we've slayed them all year.

I felt the pain this year using my 8wt fly rod. I noticed it was only with that rod too.

has anyone had "tennis" elbow issues? I've noticed since getting a baitcaster my elbow has been having issues. I've actually thought of giving up the baitcaster because of it. that sidearm motion is probably doing some damage.

Utgolf did you go yesterday?

UtahGolf, be careful with that, I had surgery on both elbows last year, With work, golf, and fishin, it took its toll!![frown] got to the point I couldn't even cast fly fly rod!. Had surgery last Jan and after 4-5 months of therapy Im back doing it all again!
] Try and do some stretches before casting is my best advise!!

we were down there. Caught a few but pretty dang slow. Were you in a pontoon boat? I think we might've been next to you when she caught her pike. we were in an aluminum canoe with pontoons on the sides of it.

I think I might buy a nice spinning rod setup and ditch the baitcaster, I love the baitcaster but as much as I like to fish now, I can't imagine what my elbow would feel like in 10 years if I keep it up.
