National Parks are closed.
National Recreation Areas have been shut down.
What's next?
Boat ramps on National Forest.
Then what?
In 2 weeks the general rifle deer hunt starts. Will access to the National Forests be taken away prior to that?
The threat is real.
contact your state representatives right now. Especially those that represent areas affected by the government mess. Ask them if there is anything that they can do to keep these federal lands open for us to use!
time to have a special Utah legislative session. Time for Utah to take over control of our Parks and federal lands, at least until the government get's their act together and works this mess out.
Send a message right now. We're losing too much money and opportunity.
Thanks for your time.

Subject: More Government Shutdown-Related Closures - Will Affect Anglers and Hunters
U.S. Forest Service (USFS) officials informed the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) today that all developed facilities owned by the USFS are being closed because of the federal government shutdown.
The facilities the USFS is in the process of closing include all concrete boat ramps, outhouses and campgrounds. This includes the boat ramps at waters such as Strawberry, Flaming Gorge and Pineview reservoirs.
The only good news the Utah DWR received is that roads on National Forests remain open. Also, anglers should still be able to fish from the shore and from small boats that can be launched by hand.
There may be additional closures on federal lands, but the DWR has not received any other information at this time.
Please encourage hunters and anglers to keep federal closures such as these in mind when planning recreational activities.

This information is being shared by DWR with select media, through the Division's website, social media channels and on various online discussion forums. Wildlife-related recreation activities are highly popular this time of year and so we're trying to keep our customers updated.

Welcome back PBH!

Fished from shore off Mirror Lake Highway today for an hour and a half. Had 1 hit and no hookups. Maybe they should have closed the whole place[
]. Wanted some place my 2 dogs could run free, swim and not bother anyone more than I cared about fishing so still a nice day to be out.
Welcome back. It's probable shore fishing or launching from a state park for a while.

You were banned? What's this world a comin' to?! I must have missed the fanfare, I was enjoying the wind on Boulder.
Glad you're back.

First, welcome back.
This government shutdown nonsense has me disgusted beyond description with both the "R"s , "D"s and any incumbent. At this point, the closures are just political gamesmanship at our expense. That said, I am curious just what you think our usually bungling State legislators are empowered to do? I don't see that they can call any shots IMO. The downside of having lots of Federal public land is dealing with Congress when the different branches are having a hissy fit. As for closing the National forests, I would like to see the Feds try to enforce such a closure. I don't think they can successfully. A better call might be to the Garfield County sheriffs office, encouraging them not to enforce any such silly Federal decrees.
(At least that is what I might do, considering that I have a Plateau Boulder deer tag in my pocket.
)
The other bad thing about this nonsense is that it gives ammunition to the State "land grab" movement. Just no safe position for the States recreationalists.

I fear the same. however, at this point, I would be on the side of the state in a temporary grab until the feds get their crap together.
you asked what the state could do at this point: they could walk in to the Parks and say; "thanks. We'll take it from here."
i emailed 4 State legislators and 1 commissioner yesterday. I spoke to another commissioner on the phone. The one commissioner wasn't yet aware of the Forest Service closing their facilities. He is worried, but hopeful that a resolution comes by this weekend. We'll see. I received an email from the other commissioner stating that "they are moving ahead as fast as possible on a resolution".

I do hope it is resolved quickly, but not at the expense of caving on this Obama care program.
It is crazy that Insurance is what has closed our forest.

It's not health care that caused this, it's the "war on the uninsured" gunna work like the war on drugs or the war on poverty. These dumbasses are probably shuting down snowmobiling too. Be prepared guys our worlds changing.

I encourage everyone to go out on federal property and overwhelm it with our presence! Put law enforcement in the position of having to actually make a decision as to who they will side with, the people or the idiotic politicians. I know our deputies in rich county aren't going to feel obligated to enforce federal bans on public land. The more we show our defiance, maybe the Feds will start worrying for their sorry jobs!
Just my opinion though.

I agree with that, Bob. Well, except for the civil disobedience part. When things like this happen, I call it civic duty to assert the will of The People.
The truckers have a good idea, although that can turn really bad, really fast. Making it hard to move about the country can really hurt us. It might just play to the advantage of this corrupt government.
Just think: If the truckers don't have enough support, they are labeled domestic terrorists and then slaughtered right where they're parked. As a bonus, the roads probably sustain major damage and the public is further punished by their lack of mobility.
Goods don't move, supplies run out, panic erupts, riots, martial law, etc.
Just what the puppeteers want.

Yes and we still haven't paid for part D of medicare ten years later. That unfunded war on uninsured prescription drug coverage for seniors has cost many hundreds of billion dollars 10 years later. Most seniors don't realize nobody paid in for part d now or in the past. Purely deficit producing welfare.
Hopefully all our seniors on BFT here aren't accepting this socialist freebie. And no your small premiums don't begin to cover the total costs any more than those for ACA will cover total cost
Cost projections for both Medicare Part D and ACA are a little over $1 trillion dollars each for the next 10 years.
I say suck it up as we can't afford either without huge tax increases to pay for them.

Think how good the fishing would be if the fish & game and immigration would do a flip flop.

Spell Check won't catch that one.
I was being a bit sarcastic, many on here accept their freebie of Medicare part D but hypocritically are against others getting help with ACA. I was also serious.
While both programs have problems, they help ( or will help) others with health issues. The problem with this is it all cost money that no one wants to pay. Going back to Reagan we've been too accepting of trillion dollar deficits. Add all those trillions up and you start talking about some real money.
On the bright side there is talk of a short term fix of the shitdown underway.
