I was luck enough to get out for a few hours this afternoon and it was well worth my while. I decided to crappie fish for a while and stay out of the Heartland guy's way. The very first stop I fished was a brush pile that I often forget to fish. It is on a small drop from 10-15fow and it's only about half the size of the boat. First cast I had a hit and out came a nice crappie. I killed the fish here for a while and they most all 11-13 in. I caught one black crappie that was 15.7 inches which is one of the longest crappie I have ever caught. I believe this is actually the second time i've caught this fish in the same brush. I remember it because it was the skinniest fish I have ever seen. I really don't see how it has lived long enough to get that long without dying.
Anyways I caught a limit there with the fish hitting it on about a 8ct with a 1/24oz jig. All the fish were hanging off the deep end of the brush pile. I moved to two more docks and only caught 2 small crappie. Fished a drop and zeroed there. Then I moved to another dock that didn't have any fish on it, but I did catch a 3.2 pretty smallmouth which was quite a battle on 4lb test around posts. I actually thought it was a flathead for a while and got excited when i saw what it was.
I moved on to fish another brush pile, a drop, and a rockpile where I can usually catch fish, but they were dead. I only caught 3 keepers in all these spots. I tried an offshore spot that always has fish on it and it did today, it was just near impossible to get a 1/16oz jig in the strike zone. The current was moving so much it was rolling over my marker bouy. I did catch 2 more keepers there with another TARP black crappie.
I gave into the urge to fish a big grass bed that had huge bass blowing up all around it, and of course none of them would hit anything I threw. I did catch two about 2lbs each on a spook and a frog. I don't understand why these fish in this grass won't hit anything hardly I know they're in there. The bass are in a funky mood right now.

I had alot of fun for a little afternoon trip.
20 keeper crappie 2 tarps all released 3 bass and a catfish.
All the crappie were caught on blue ice and it was a rare day where they wouldn't touch anything else. Water temp was 75-79.
