Well I set out to go bass fishing this morning. The bad news is, I only landed 1 bass. I had a few bites and jumped another at boat side but that was about it for the bass.... I didn't fish my usual haunts down river that I like this time of year because a large section of the river was idle speed due to the rowing races. (It was idle speed from the cargill barge ties all the way down to the olgiati bridge.)

The good news is I caught this Flathead Cat... Cool fish.

Caught her at the bottom of a steep drop in 28 feet of water; on a bass jig. I can see why the cat gurus enjoy chasing these river monsters. After battling this fish, I developed a better appreciation for this species. I was using pretty heavy bass gear; and this fish was in charge for 20 minutes. The fish was hooked pretty close to the rip/rap. Throughout the fight I was being dragged towards the rocks and had to use my trolling motor to slowly ease the fish back out way from the shore line. I was a bit surprised that I didn't lose the fish.

I was flying solo today so, Thanks to the TWRA officer for snapping the photos.

I measured the fish, length/girth was: 46" X 29" which equates to about 48lbs. (I did not have a scale large enough to weigh her so took the measurements)

Flow: 20,000 cfs

Water temp: 71

By the way, I saw every kind of boat there is today, and a lot of each! Jon Boats, Bass boats, Pleasure boats, Law boats, Row boats, kayaks, Yachts, House boats, Pontoon boats, etc. etc.
