Back to bass fishing today. I fished from 11:00am until about 2:30pm and caught 5 bass and got 4 in the boat ( more about that later ). I fished the sloughs starting at Paradise Cove / the golf course and worked my way back to the swimming pool slough at HBSP. Nothing but average size bass except for one I lost - isn't that always the case ? I got an up close look at it - in the 3 pound range. The "kicker" as why I lost it was that my knot didn't hold. Oooo....ouch...no...c'mon man ! Are you kidding me ? The most basic of the fundamentals of fishing - tie a good knot. I could have accepted it a little better if it had broke my line or something but I just watched and felt it pull free as I was about to get the fish in the boat. I was shocked. I do have a little trouble with knots and fluorocarbon sometimes but I thought for sure it was a good knot after a couple of jerks on the line. A little embarrassing and inexcusable for sure - but stuff happens sometimes. I guess I've done too much crappie fishing this year. You might can get away with that with a crappie...but not a bass.

Once again I used crankbaits which I can't seem to get away from this year. What is my strength is probably an overall weakness in my fishing game but I've had some good luck this year on my infrequent bass trips. The cranks that I've been matching up to shad like your typical chrome type lures have worked well lately but once again my "fave" the blueback chartreuse is still catching fish also. The bass I lost today hit a shallow running BPS blueback chartreuse. If it shook it free it's a floater so someone save it for me if you see it up that way. emoLaugh

A pic of a bass I caught in the HBSP swimming pool slough and some cranks that have caught fish on the last two trips - all had "rattles" inside. The blueback chartreuse shown is a slightly deeper running version of the one I lost and the crank with the "spot" is the one Deb caught her 4 pounder on last Thursday. Water temperature was 75-77 and the best depth was about 6 feet.
