Rick and I decided earlier in the week to stay with grass mats all day. We sort of reneged on that a little bit, but we did fish most of the day on grass mats.

At the first stop, Rick had a blowup on a frog on the 2nd or 3rd cast. The fish was good one that charged the frog from about 4 feet away and missed it. It wouldn't come back for another try. emoBang Then about 5 casts later, I had one blow up on a buzz bait and it missed the bait too. emoBang Not a good pattern.

Moving to other grass mats nearby, I finally get the skunk off the boat with a 14" non-keeper. The light is getting better all the time for the fish to see our baits. Ten minutes later, I have a nice 3 lber crush the buzz bait. Number one in the livewell. 30 minutes later, Rick has another 3 lber eat the frog. Number 2 in the boat and we are feeling better. 2 quality fish and lots of time left. We fished those mats for another hour or two without any more bites, so we finally had to leave the area and go to our 2nd area that we had pre-planned to fish. A boat was sitting on it, but 300 yards away.

We stopped at the beginning of the mats and within a couple of minutes, Rick had another good fish on that pull off after a short fight. Just as his fish was getting off, I had a bass grab the buzz bait and throw it immediately. emoBang We fished that area for another hour or so. On the 2nd pass back through there, I had a bass that looked in the 5+ pound range come out of the mats with intentions of murdering the buzz bait and missed it by about 6 inches. It never looked back.

When the wind picked up so much that it made frog and buzz bait fishing useless, we changed gears and went to a deep drop and Rick put our 3rd keeper in the boat on a 1/2 oz jig. It was a 3 lber too. We had 9.32 lbs for the weigh-in. We missed enough bigger fish to be near or at the top, I feel, but just wasn't our day. There is always tomorrow at the Riverpark. We are looking for a big bite in the morning. I hope that we aren't disappointed. emoBig emoGeezer
