Took Arctic girl,Hookedchica to huntington the girls hit fish after fish all day long, their first ever ice fishing trip. What a way to start out, I hope they don't think ice fishing is that easy every time
hookedchica hit them on 32oz. sparkle jigs.
arcticgirl on chartreuse Whatta crickets.
I did well with white, all our jigs we tipped with wax worms,30' from the shore opposite the road, in 15' depth. we caught most all 2" off the bottom and DEFFINATELY NEEDED jigging motion with a pause. when we let it sit still,we did not get a hit.

Howmany fish did you catch, and what sizes were they?

Same spot and depth we fished last weekend. You did far better than us. If one of the kids you took fishing was the girl who has the sleds my next question is. When we sleding in to Smith and Morehouse? You can ride with me but, if you're going to wrap you arms around me, I want a discount!

I am also curious how many you landed, because I fished Huntington today as well from 9:00 to 3:30, and we only landed ten, but about 8 escaped from ever being pull aboard the ice. It wasn't red hot, but it was interesting. If you jigged it, your offering got noticed, if not, no fish. I had onl a small brown wooly bugger, and all ten tigers were caught on it. The biggest, about 15", was caught on a great lake emerald shiner head, but the other nine were coaxed from the depths with pieces of nightcrawlers. A sensitive rod, or a small bobber made things easier. If you want lots of fish, go elsewhere, but if you neat looking fish, Huntington is the place. Be on your feet if you go, I was lowering my bugger down, and it stopped-fish!! Another time I was bringing it up and a really nice one swam by and tried to inhale it. We were fishing in about 7-8' of water, away from the crowds, aobut thirty feet off a point, and that seemed to be the ticket. We caught fish by the crowds, but only one. I havent really figured out Huntington yet, either you catch em' or you don't. My dad didn't get his first until 1:00, and I already had 4 by then. Good luck guys,
Anthony

we honestly lost count after a few hours!!! it was such a blast.... hft caught a few between 18" and 22" and i think so did arcticgirl. mine were relatively small, but i had a good time with the non-stop action!! we tested out quite a few rigs and the white sparkle jigs and the white or chartreuse whatta crickets really slayed them...
i agree with you about the stealthy bites. we were watching our rods like hawks and setting the hook if we saw any movement. i'm pretty ecstatic about this whole ice fishing thing[
]. and those fish are BEAUTIFUL!!! we will be posting pictures soon....

HAHAHA, Careful HFT of his sled, its only a 250 and he is a fairly large guy, so you might be pushing LOL [

Anthony, Were did you fish?
Huntington keys:
Depth-20' or less, we were in 15'
colors-chartreuse or white
fish off of steeper banks
***keep rod in hand***
wax worms
set every thing, alot of my catches today the fish did not pull at all, the line went slack.
Rob was up there today he caught a bunch 8' below the ice.(in the blue tent)
we were 30 yards from him and closer to the bank.
we caught most all right at the bottom,2"

HFT is right!! It was a fabulous day on the ice. We fished not far from him and the girls (had I known it was him I would have gone over earlier).
My fishing partner and I lost count of the fish as well. We each landed one on the first drop of our jig.
We used the white Whatta Crickets. However, unlike HFT, we didnt stay on the bottom for long. We caught several off the bottom but the majority of ours were caught about 10 feet down. And we watched every one of them through the hole!!! We could watch our jig and the fish would come up to it and bump it with their nose at least 3-5 times before ever attacking it. Had we not been watching them we would have never known that they were there. It was so cool to watch them.
When no fish were present we would move the jig quite a bit. As soon as that attracted a fish or two, we would barely twitch our line with our finger to make the legs of the jig look as if swimming. It looked so cool!!! And with my buddy fishing right next to me if I missed one he would usually get it. It was incredible.
We were in 20 ft of water.
Incredible day.
Sorry, no photos. Had digital camera.....didn't have fresh batteries....ARGH!!!
