This fall has been really really tough. The fish are few and far between so far. I have been going way down the river below Shoup every weekend this month and have yet to find a fish. Sunday was my birhthday and a friend and I decided to float the river between Salmon and North Fork and I had some birthday luck. The day started with 4 suckers right off the bat and then I started picking up a lot of trout. Cutty's, a couple small rainbows, and 2 hybrids even. Then I finally had a good hard pull down and when I set the hook I knew immediately it was a steelhead. She wasn't very large, but she was full of energy. She went aerial several times and did not want anything to do with the bank. I'd get her in and she'd turn and head right back out. I finally did land her and it was a 'lil hen keeper. First time I can remember landing a steelhead on my birthday.
