Hey Its been a loooong time since I got on the water and would like to go to Oneida on Saturday and give it a try. I was wondering if anyone has been up there lately and if its possible to still put in a small 14' aluminum boat from the main ramp?

I have only fished it a couple times but I have been reading that often the lake goes up and down a lot? Hate to drive up there and not be able to launch? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank You and good luck fishing

Was up there Wednesday and you can launch no problem. Even Wed there were 5-6 trailers in the lot and I saw 3 boats fishing the area there at the dam end.

For me I was looking for smallies but all I caught were trout, nothing over 19" and that was from both Oneida and the river below.

You also used to be able to park up by the dam but they have a new gate and fence now so it's not as easy to access the rockface of the dam.

Have fun!

Hey thanks a lot Suhly for the information. Im planning on taking my neighbor with me tomorrow if all goes well and see if we can get into any smallmouth bass and walleyes. I let you know how it was for us when we get back.

thanks again and good luck fishing

They'll likely be fairly deep. The last time I was up there, on the 7th, the fish were mostly in the 15' and deeper range and not super aggressive. Most were caught on drop shots. This week of warmer weather may have pushed them shallower again, but it's also two and a half weeks later, so they may be even more settled into their winter haunts down deep.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure that one will be a fish of a lifetime for me. It was pretty exciting.

I should have gone after some smallies today, but since I've been fighting a sinus infection all week, I opted for a closer largemouth spot for a quicker trip. I thought that with the week of warm, stable, weather that we've had, the fish would be more active, but it was tough. I fished four hours and though I missed or lost a fair amount of fish, I only managed to land three bass, three perch, and a trout. Oh well, at least the perch were a nice surprise. I hadn't caught any out of there all year, I was beginning to think they'd become extinct in that reservoir. [inline "perch 2 small.jpg"]

They were all around 13" and caught from the same school. Either the breeze blew me off of them, or they moved on, but I'm glad I caught a few anyway. I think I'm resigning myself to fishing streams for trout the rest of the year. See you in six months bass [:/]

Wow gstott that's a really nice perch congratulations. We made it up today to Oneida it was cold with the wind blowing at sun rise at 24degs [fishin]

It was super hot on the catching but was a pretty nice day it finally warmed up some and we ended up catching 4 small walleyes and 2 bass no huge ones but we had a lot of fun and had some others on and other bites.

Well that's fishing not every day is super hot but it was just great getting out on the boat again today its been a loooong time since I was up there on the lake.

The water was really clear and the lake is nearly full only 2 other boats on the lake today with us fishing

OH gstott what you mean 6 months before bass fishing again? YOU need to ICE FISH we catch bass through the ice its a ton of fun[cool]

They're actually all different fish, I got into a school of jumbos. I hadn't caught any like that from there in a while, I was beginning to think they'd all died off. Seeing as they've been so scarce lately, I decided to return them all to the water to spawn next spring.

As for ice fishing, I think my wife would leave me if I picked it up. I already fish too much for her liking during the open water season. Besides, I really need to hit the books hard and get this degree wrapped up before I get too old [Image: scaredworried.gif]

Glad you guys had a nice day out on the water. I'm tempted to give it one more go the end of next week and try some deep water drop shotting, though with the cold weather coming it may not be worth it. I guess if it's slow, I can always fly fish the river below for trout.

At that size they are probably on their last spawn. If they make it past ice season. Maybe u can pm me which lake, and I'll tell u if I don't find them! Wink

Oneida sounds fun. Might have to see about a camping weekend up that way next year.
Oneida is a pretty fun reservoir. I think it's the best smallie water in the area for sure.

I'll pm you my secret musky spot [:p]
