Kolob has been stellar lately. Lots of 18-23" cutts and chunky bows. Catching them anywhere from 5-15 feet on any bugger/leech pattern in brown or green. I'll back up there tomorrow...going to be a beautiful day!

Too far a drive for most, but it does seem to draw pretty good numbers of FFers from Southern UT. We enticed several more yesterday....what a beautiful day in Zions! That short rainbow was as wide as it was long, so I had to take a picture of it. The bows there have yet to get very big, but they are healthy!

In august I caught quite a few on big hoppers just out on the edge of the reeds, all cuts nothing smaller than sixteen inches. I love fishing Kolob!

nice fish!
18-23" !!
so, what I'm gathering is that the new regs that allow bait during the summer months, in an effort to increase mortality, is actually working?! Starting to see some larger fish coming out of Kolob -- sounds like great news to me!!
Thanks for sharing.

I agree that Kolob should be artificial only year round. Sad to see that the local land owners disregard the regs and were fishing with bait while we were up there. Paddle by one sucb lady who had a couple cutts on a stringer that were illegal, and several other dead fish floating by her from her powerbait gut hooks. She had to have known better since they owned the property along that side she was fishing. I wish the DFWR would get up there and do some checks.

wait a minute....
you posted a report with some pics excited about the size of fish you caught at Kolob -- up to 23"!!
That's good, right?
Now, in the past those trout were not growing over 18". Too many fish, according to biologists. Not enough harvest. You couldn't harvest, because the fish weren't growing over the minimum size requirement. So the solution was to allow bait fishing during the summer months -- which
increases mortality, regardless whether harvest occurs or not.
The results, according to your report, is that fish are now reaching 23" sizes! Amazing! That's awesome!
Yet, now you're complaining that the new regs are harming the fishery?
I'm so
. Which is it? Are the fish bigger? Are the regs hurting the fishery?
If you were really catching fish over 20", then what are we complaining about? Obviously those "land owners" aren't hurting a thing. My guess is that they're actually helping.

Really? I have a feeling you like to argue, which isn't my cup of tea...I like to catch fish. But, since you feel like going there...I will always have a problem with people breaking the law by using bait when it is not allowed and gut hooking fish just to let them die after they've already filled their limit. If you don't have a problem with that, well....I feel sorry for ya.
