I know this is a little bit late but I just had to share my General Season Deer success story. It has been a few years since my Dad and I have drew out deer tags together due to various circumstances. We were finally able to draw out this year. We were both way excited. We left early Friday afternoon to go find us a good camping spot on top of the mountain. When we finally rolled out of the tent the next morning it was almost light enough out to take a shot if we saw anything. So we grabbed our rifles and started our walk across the mountain. My Dad had been doing quite a bit of hunting for a cow elk in the same area and at the same time had been scouting for deer. So he decided to take me to a spot where a guy had shot a nice bull elk the week before. As we walk up to the spot he points out the remains of the bull and we start to discuss a game plan as far as what clearing to watch. At that same moment I am scanning the back of the clearing that we were currently watching and notice some movement. Elk! So my Dad gets ready and waits for a good shot on one of the bigger cows in the small herd. Just before he takes a shot they start moving down the hillside and out of sight. A half second later they are almost running back up. They were spooked by something down there. As they are cresting the top and coming back to the edge of the clearing we notice that there are more of them. Wait those aren't elk they are deer. I whisper "Deer!" to my dad as I start scanning I whisper "Bucks! Theres a 4 point." He whispers back "Ok shoot it and I will shoot the two point behind it. Count to three." Completely forgetting about the elk we let the three bucks walk out of the trees broadside at about a hundred yards down hill from us and stop, I wait till I have a good aim and count "1, 2, 3" BOOM! As the "dust clears" we look down the hill at two deer down. By the time we took the pictures below it was about 8:20 am. We hadn't been able to shoot for less than an hour and we had filled our tags. It was an awesome morning! One of the coolest things by far that I was able to do with my Dad. By the time we got the deer back to camp and hung them up, it was almost 2:00pm. We spent the rest of the weekend hoping to find a cow to fill his tag with but could never be in the right spot. It seemed like everyone we talked to had seen elk after that morning but us. We still filled two deer tags which makes it a successful weekend. This hunt will definitely be one of the more memorable ones.

Very awesome story! Look at the neck on that 4 point! Geez, he was just about in full rut stud mode! Well done sir

He had a big body to him. That neck was huge! It made for a really slow and exhausting 100 yard drag to the top of a steep hill in the snow.

And that's exactly why I hunt birds [Smile]

Congrats on the hunt to both of you, it's nice when you can hunt with family. The wife, our daughters and myself had a great family hunt in WY. a couple weeks ago. The gals all took nice muley bucks that were in full rut as well as filling their whitetail doe tags.

Concrats to you and your family PACKFAN. Its really nice when you can make a weekend of hunting into a family outing. It makes everything more memorable. Plus all those "big fish" stories can be backed up by someone else.[Wink]
